Help! Menstral Period started!

I'm new to the group. Discovered a lump on Friday, had an emergency appt with OB/GYN yesterday who dx with Bartholin Gland Cyst. He drained and. Inserted a Word Catheter. My period is starting now, very heavy, can I use a tampon!?!?! Seems unsanitary to use a pad!!?!! Please share experience and/or advice! I'm freaking out about it getting infected!

    Hello I had my cyst since November I never use tampons it has not got infected but every time I go to the restroom I rice with a squart bottle to prevent infection I but little of salt in the bottle I know how u feel please keep updating .

      No thank god !!! not yet my cyst in solid hard it was big and it got small with sitz bath with salt with really hot water really hot

    I had a word catheter in for 5 weeks so obviously had a period while it was in but it had been there for probably a week or two before my period started. I used pads and didn't have any problems with it getting infected. Try frequent sitz baths to keep the area clean and you should be okay.

    I had a catheter and used tampons, just carefully inserting and removing, its a bit of a faff but if you can bathe with salt water frequently you shouldn't have a problem with infection at all. Good luck.
