Help, need some advice

Hi to you all,

I,m not sure how to put this so please bear with me!

I am 60 years of age with no history of seizures in my life. Very healthy person. About a week ago I was in the shower etc etc and then I got out put a towel around me and called my partner (by name) very assertively to come upstairs immediately.

She came up and I was in the bedroom staring at her, I then started looking out of the window at our two cars, I do remember I was trying to recognise them, and then turned around and starting to tidy up the items in front of the TV. I then started to look out of the window again at the cars.

I was going to my daughters that day as it was her birthday and my partner reminded me but I could not remember and said it was not even April.

After that things started to return to normal. So it was about 5/10 mins.

Now the doctor came around and said he thought I had experienced a Temporal Lobe seizure even though he did not have any experience of seizures.

This is where I have a problem, this Doctor (really nice guy) is saying I can't drive for 6 months even though he is not an expert. Don't get me wrong if that is the case I understand that it would be far to dangerous for me to drive.

This's is where it gets interesting. Two weeks previous I had started a job with the local health authority and had to have vaccinations- mmr/ hepititas b etc. By chance I went on to the NHS site to check out side effects of these (if there where any) and low and behold with the mmr jab in adults you can get seziures!!!!!!

I have been booked in to see a specialist etc but wondered if anyone thinks I am going down a blind alley with regards to the mmr jab.

It does seem strange that I go for 60 years with no problems and then after a mmr jab get a seziure?

I really would appreciate the views of people who have experience of this.

thank you so much.

Is this the only one you have had?

      Hi Jennifer,

Yes the only one and none since either. I go to the specialist next Monday (2/6/14) is it possible he could view this as a provoked attack?

      Thank you for replying.

      Kind Regards

      Alan.

This all depends on what he believes may be the cause. Be sure to tell him everything that happened that you remember or were told. You may also want to mention about the MMR vaccine. It doesn't seem likely that it is the cause since it happened 6 months later, but you never know. Were you stressed out about anything?

      Hi,

Sorry I didn't make, myself, clear the "seizure" happened only 8 days after the vaccine jab.

      Hi Jennifer,

Well we spent quite a while discussing my concern

But the consultant, whilst he said it was possible

that I could have had a reaction, he couldn't be sure

I had. He did say I was not a epileptic but had probably

had an isolated seizure. So no licence for 6 months!

I still have to have a mri but he said it was not likely that I would have another.

I don't know if this will help but I had my first seizure 4 months ago and was diagnosed with epilepsy, something I hadn't even thought about. They want me to stay on the tablets for the rest of my life. My first one might be my only one but who knows? They obviously don't think so. I understand how u feel, not that it helps but we have to cope (if you can, I can)
