Help needed - tapering off sertaline

Posted , 5 users are following.

Hi

I've been on sertraline for about 6 months, max dose was 150mg. My GP suggested I give up on it as it clearly wasn't working and this was backed up my care co-ordinator. I'm now down to 50mg every other day but my GP is very vague as to how long I should do this before stopping altogether. Can anyone advise a realistic timescale for this last bit of the tapering?

Thanks

M

    Hi,

I am assuming that you have plans to either try another medication such as venoafaxine, which works a bit differently or else have plans for CBT or similar for when you stop fully . You are really down as far as you can go, I would consider a couple of weeks every other day and then stopping it altogether- I think you need to be prepared for maybe feeling a bit naff initially. Wishing you well x H

    Hi Willow,

Usually with 50mg tablets they can be split in half. I took 25mg one day and nothing the next for 2 weeks and then stopped. I had around 5 days of feeling awful when I fully stopped with headaches and dizziness and then I was ok. Good luck

You could could always go down to 25mg for a few days just to be on the safe side but you are really pretty close to where you need to be on your taper. Good luck and God bless

You could go go down 12.5 at a time for a week or so. Even reduce it to smaller doses if needed.
