I had the same problem many years ago, it was eventually turned out to be balanitis. It eventually cleared but has left a scar on my glans.

okay, you have some level of irritation going on - while this can be described as Balanitis this gives no clue to how it was caused or how to treat it.
This is most often about what your penis is in contact with, or an infection that may be present on the surface of the skin.
Think, have you started using an new soap, shower gel or other form of body wash in the last few weeks?
How would you describe your personal, and, penile hygiene? Do you shower everyday?
Freshly laundered underwear or sports shorts if you wear them instead EVERY morning ...... ?

The only safe option when you have penile skin issues is simply not to expose any irritated or damaged skin to any form of body wash - that is they need to be fully excluded until the skin has fully healed.
This is easier to achieve when you shower - you can at least draw your foreskin fully-forward to protect your inner-foreskin and the skin on your glans /head of penis.
Here is the detail:
.
When you shower or take a bath, pull the foreskin as far forward as you can to protect the head of the penis, wash everywhere else on the body first then fully rinse, then expose the head of your penis and wash the head and foreskin with water only, rubbing with the inside of the hand and your fingertips to clean. Just as important is fully drying your penile skin - if you take showers dry your foreskin and head of your penis first with a clean dry towel, that preferably, only you use.
.
Healing does not just take a matter of days, or even weeks - often the skin will take a matter of at least several months before it is sufficiently healthy again.

Medication is one of the essential things to avoid - you enable the skin to heal by following exactly what I have stated to you, and you do this consistently from now onwards
