I have been having nausea, really bad tummy pain and constipation / Diarrhea for a while now. I've been tested for coeliac disease which came back negative. I think it is IBS asthe nausea and pain go away once I go to the bathroom. Coffee and milk seem to make my stomach churn and the pain is dreadful until I go to the toilet. I went to my doctor yesterday and he wants to run some tests but then he concerned me when he said he would like to do a head scan if nothing comes up in the other tests, his words were "there could be something bad up there causing you the nausea". Why would he want to do this? I am so confused, I don't have any symptoms of a brain tumour. Can someone please help me

He's probably being very thorough. Doctors will want to do different test based on age and sex of the paient. If you are well seasoned, he probably wants to make sure that you didn't have any concussions, that could have caused the diarrhea, as older people are often prone to more accidents.

Maybe, I've only just turned 21. Not sure if that would make any difference ?

Please look up symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia. See if you have some of the other symptoms. Ibs can be a symptom of other diseases. Don't worry I have had tons of scans and all have come back normal but they have to do them to rule out everything else.

I saw doctors for stomach pain, constipation, loose stools and back pain including nausea. My symptoms are similar to yours but I have no food/drink reactions. However, I was not given a head scan because of the nausea. I had an ultrasound, celiac test, stool analysis and urine test. All of these came back clear. I was diagnosed with IBS.
It sounds like your doctor is being very thorough which is good. However. If you are anxious about why you are being offered a head scan, discuss this with your doctor and ask why a head scan is necessary when your symptoms seem to be intestinal.

Hello Samantha, I too have nausea and pain , after I go to the bathroom (with results) I feel better and the nausea goes away. Nausea is present in some people and others not. It is OBVIOUS that upon your going to the bathroom and the nausea goes away that it is the reason. IBS causes pain, pain causes nausea in many people. Don't worry, and find a second opinion or just tell that DR you are not comfortable with his idea of doing a Brain scan . Back him up .. first things first. Seems other tests would be first to establish the IBS. Maybe he has a friend that needs work in the xray lab dept.
