I have had several panic attacks and they all came out of nowhere. Once while driving and another time while sitting at my desk. My heart rate skyrocketed and other times felt a rush of warm heat all over my body. I went to a psychologist that helped me learn many techniques, I think they are called CBT's. There are several on line you can look up and practice. I also was give xanax that I would use each day, but I have weaned myself off now. I found quitting caffeine has helped, lots of water and increase exercise will all benefit you. Also, dont think of it as something wrong with you, but something you can live with and make better. Best of Luck!

If you have one you need to take 10 deep breaths. Then focus on counting your breathing in and out. Close your eyes if it will help. Start telling yourself that this has happened before and you are okay so even though something is happening again you will be okay. I used to tell myself, when some wacky symptoms started, " you are not real and you will not scare or defeat me". Once I was somewhat calm I would take a brisk walk. It helps release the serotonin. It truly is a mind game that you can win.

Hi Christopher,
Recently these have started happening to me too. An example, sitting in the car with my husband driving and he getting agitated in a traffic jam. I immediately felt this feeling of losing control, panicky, uncomfortable, feeling hot, heart beating fast etc etc. I started doing some slow breathing on off for about ten minutes. I also keep an elastic band on my wrist and pluck away at it, it helps. It went after a good ten minutes and my convincing myself if was just a panick or anxiety attack, and that I've had them before and it will pass. I also try to take my mind of it my focussing on something else, surroundings, family, holidays etc. Drinking water helps because when you are drinking you are not breathing. It is a horrible feeling I know. I can't watch certain things on the TV or loud noises, children crying in shops, dogs barking etc. I have to calm myself down.
I don't know if you are on meds but I am and they generally work for me. I've messed them up recently hence the anxiety back.
Take care

I have suffered from these panic attacks since I was about 19.
Mine too came apparently from nowhere, I thought I was dying many times and struggled to control them or myself. It’s a vicious circle!
Nothing helped me medically, no psychologist or doctor.
But I spent many hours reading about the brain and panicking and I have managed to control them myself and haven’t had one since 2014.
First and foremost, don’t fight it. When you feel your heart racing and you know your going into panic mode- remember, tomorrow- you will feel better, normal even. You will NOT die.
Once your heart is racing, begin a breathing technique immediately- and do this for half an hour to an hour until you are sure you have passed the attack.
Most important- remember your OUT breath must be longer than your IN breath, when we panic and our heart races out blood supply increases and the body naturally breathes faster which in turn makes you feel breathless. So breathe in for 3-4 seconds, then out through your mouth for 5-6 seconds. Keep doing this- this is the only thing you need to focus on.
The mind is a very powerful tool and these panic attacks are controlled by the mind. Accept you are entering into a panic attack, breathe through it and then say to yourself, you beat that one. You’ll beat the next one and so on.
Some things work for others and won’t work on others so do explore other routes available and study study study it- the way the body responds etc! You’ll beat these eventually x
