I was swabbed for herpes on friday and I'm still waiting for results. I have convinced myself that they're probably coming back positive which has really affected me mentally and emotionally. With that being said, I need help understanding exactly how this virus works before I jump to conclusions. I have been in a relationship for 3 years. I had a full panel blood test done right before I met him and everything came back clean. Does this mean he has cheated on me and gave me the virus? Mind you, he has no symptoms and says he never has had any. Or is it possible that my blood test was wrong years ago and myself or him have been carrying the virus from before meeting each other and we've just been asymptomatic? He has sworn that he hasn't been with anyone else during our relationship. Any help with understanding this is greatly appreciated!

herpes can lay dormant for years in the body. blood tests are not accurate enough , best bet is the swab on an open sore to know for sure. he may not have cheated , and its been in his body for years undetected. or he has.
even cold sores can cause genital herpes. either way it is not the end of the world.

I was right. It came back positive for HSV1....I don't even know how I feel right now. Do I have to be worried about passing this on to my kids?

hsv1 on the genitals is the least of your worries. low shedding rate (but not impossible) and it doesnt even like that area much so you wont experience many outbreaks. you cannot pass the virus onto your children unless you are engaging in skin to skin contact with the infected area. unless you are having an active outbreak , vaginal birth is possible and not risky. hsv1 typically comes from the mouth , if your partner has cold sores and gives you oral sex that could be how u contracted the virus.

thanks so much. obviously no skin to skin contact with my kids but they are always sharing my drinks and things like that and since I know HSV1 is typically oral I was concerned about passing it that way. He said he's never dealt with cold sores...however I have seen some of what I thought were scabbing/healing pimples around his mouth only once or twice but maybe those were actually cold sores. Who knows but I feel like I'm driving myself crazy trying to figure out how I got it. Thanks for your help!
