Help please? Prednosilone!

Hi everyone. I went to the doctor today because I was on an antibiotic and had an allergic reaction to it, and today I was prescribed prednosilone. 10 ML twice a day. I have only taken one dose of it and I'm having some side effects. Frequent urination, slight dizziness, sometimes I feel my heartbeat through my chest. I have anxiety on top of this so these symptoms are no help with that!! I'm kind of freaking out. Should I be concerned? And should I go back to the doctor because of this? And also, would it be safe to take 50 mg of benadryl with this? I took the steroid liquid about 6 hours ago and don't think I want to take it anymore... THANK YOU!

You only have to take it for a few days and the effects will probably settle after a day or so - they are perfectly normal for pred. You need it to calm down the allergic reaction so do try to bear it. I've been on pred every day for 10 years so I am very used to it now.

Doctors do use both pred and benadryl for allergic reactions so it should be OK - maybe ask a local pharmacist too?

Hello, Sky. I can understand how you are concerned about the symptoms you are having from "pred". However I believe that stuff like dizziness and a throbbing heart are not uncommon. I urge you to check the symptoms out with your pharmacist. He/she can tell you if they are common side effects. Also, check with them about your Benedryl question.Good luck and God bless you!

I was on pred for a couple of weeks and felt awful 24/7.

I looked into the matter and switched to hydorcortisone which had much less bad side effects.

No matter which drug you take, make sure your last dose is at least 6 hrs before bedtime or your sleep will suffer.

I was told to take mine in the morning by the pharmacy.

It depends on the person. And all of us on this forum would normally take the entire dose in one go - that's the way it is felt to work best for GCA and PMR.

Good advice. Sometimes it helps to break the dose into smaller doses. Say you're prescribed 10 mg per day. you could take 5mg with b/fast and 5 mg with lunch rather than 10 mg at b/fast. The day's total dose is what matters.

I agree, it depends on the person. I couldn't hand pred in one go, so took it in smaller doses through they day, which made it easier on me. When I changed to hydrocortisone, I felt even better. Not to say I felt well, just better than when on pred
