Help - random ulcer

So I've been dating my boyfriend since last may and I know we've both been only sleeping with each other since. I've randomly broke out with a single ulcer on one side of my outer labia just a few days ago for the first time ever. I've been reading about genital herpes but the time line doesn't make sense to me. Why would I break out in March 2020 if I've been sexually active with just him since last may?
Also it's just a single ulcer and there aren't any other bumps or blisters. Just that one spot, no cluster of bumps. I'm not in any intense pain whatsoever. Only when I go to wipe near that area does it become painful, but I'm assuming it's because it's an open wound.
Could this be something other than herpes? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

well the time line means nothing. Herpes can stay dormant for years and then you have a random break out. That being said, if it is indeed herpes theres no way to know for sure of he is the one you got it from.

Is it normal to just have a single ulcer though as a "first outbreak"? I know everyone is different but I've been reading so many stories where everyone has breakouts all over and are in a lot of pain. I haven't experienced any type of pain really.
I made an appointment to get it checked out in a few days. I've just been so confused because it seems like it could be herpes but I haven't experienced any of the other symptoms described online or by other people. Wondering if anyone else who has been diagnosed experienced just a single ulcer with no pain?

I'm in the same boat almost except I feel as though mine is a tear from rough sex because it was dry...I also have 3 sores/tears but they aren't clusters or look like herpes to me but the pics I have posted, people say it looks like it and I'm in denial about it all.

I have seen where people can have 1 ucler and some people have their breakouts look like a papercut but honestly you never can truly tell by the appearance. You have to be tested for sure because they are other things that can look like herpes but its not.

I am literally in the same position. I found an ulcer on my clitoral hood in January but I felt like it was too late when I got it swabbed (2 days after and the ulcer had gone). My results came back negative but I don't know what else could cause an ulcer. I have been obsessing over it ever since. I was put on medication but I've come off it because I wanna see if I get another one. I'm too scared to sleep with anyone in case I have it and just haven't been diagnosed.

hey do you have a picture of it? the best advice i can give is to go to your local urgent care and get a swab. swabs are accurate for the first 48 hours so its possible that the swab will be a false negative after 48 hrs and youll always be wondering if that was an outbreak or not.
Also it may be genital HSV1. does your boyfriend get cold sores?
