Help...Should I Go To ER?

Posted , 10 users are following.

The pain is to the point my hubby wants me to go to the ER.  I just took 2 Lortab 5 mg and 2 Ibuprophen.  I'm on vacation and don't know what to do. We rented a scooter.  Just arrived in D.C. last night.  Pain comes on while lying down and have to get up and then can barely walking.  Grabbed the crutches and paced...pain lifted.  I have appnt with ortho May 12.  It's been this bad for about 4 weeks.  Any movement especially while laying down is almost unbearable.  What should I do?

You are having the symptoms I had when my joint became badly infected....the "ice makes the pain worse" is a dead giveaway. Good luck.

I went to the ortho today and the diagnosis is ITBand Syndrome.  I was like, what?  Come again?  It is a common injury that runners get.  I'm not a runner and I wear knee braces so I do good to walk without tripping.  So I don't even speed walk.  The tendon is inflammed; I was put on Aleve twice daily, Ice twice daily (I forgot to tell the doc that ice was causing my knee to trob) and PT for up to 3 times a week.  I will see doc again in 6 weeks.  I have never heard of this before.  They would like to do an MRI but, and that is a BIG BUT, unfortunately I have a defibrillator/pacemaker.  If I not better in six weeks a CT Orthogram will be ordered.  I hope I am better and they have the correct diagnosis.  Until then, I am on crutches.

Thank you all for caring enough to answer when I needed you.

Already 11 days have passed. How is getting on?

I hardly believe that now you should take more rest and better treatment. Always try to keep in touch of doctor. He'll serve you best.

It was quite a wait to see the doctor.  I'm icing and resting, waiting for PT on the 20th.  Just hope we are on the right path with this.  We will find out in time.  There is arthritis underneath the petalla of that same knee and it is inflamed and painful  Thank you for asking, Saman. : )
