Help! Things are really bad here

For the last few days I've eaten nothing but malt loaf. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Is it stress, or what? There's loads of food in the house but I only want malt loaf. I am eating two whole malt loaves a day. This cannot be healthy. Is it addiction to benzos or worrying about my husband's addiction? All advice welcome.

I had to look up what malt loaf was!

Let's see, there's the benzos, your OH, cigarettes. Anything else that would make you go for the comfort food?

I can't think of anything else, but you're right. I should have figured  it out for myself, because last week it was Revels. I think malt loaf is a bit more healthy than Revels. Yes, it's comfort eating. I imagine lots of others do this. Thanks ADE. By the way, what does OH mean?

Because drugs like alcohol affect our brain, and body. So normal healthy eating patterns go out of the window. You're right, malt loaf is better than Revels.

You need an incentive to eat better. I've been given mine, not only have I got them trying to shove a pipe down my throat two days after my birthday, my appoinment arrived today for my liver scan the day before my birthday) on a Saturday, I didn't think they did these things at the weekend), so I'm going to be super healthy for the next 2 - 3 weeks.

So get yourself set up for something and frighten yourself into eating better.

Well, it's interesting that you said that, because my husband has been sober for a couple of days. Not totally off the booze, but drinking much, much less, so he cooked dinner tonight.

And it was great. Really good food. Don't even fancy malt loaf for pudding. I need to have a word with myself about eating rubbish all the time.

When my husband went into his longest and most successful rehab (eight months dry) I lost five and half stone.

I confess I've gradually put it on again, but if I did it once, then I can do it again.

So you're having the OGD without a GA? I think that's really brave of you. And the liver scan will be scary till you get the result.

NOW can I say Nearly Happy Birthday to you?

      Tess.

I'm going to see endoscopy unit at the hospital next Monday lunchtime when they are quiet and they will show me the bad news and I'll make my decision then.

I'm not phased by the liver scan, I know that will be okay and it's harmless, just need a bath afterwards to get the gel off of me. Birthday is secondary to OGF at the moment.

    Hi Tess,

I think malt has B vitamins. Your body may be asking for the things it is lacking.... or, I could be talking a load of old rubbish !!!

Vit b was my thought. I always fancy bran flakes for breakfast if I've drunk too much the day before - they have vit B and thiamin I think and even though I take vit b and thiamine I seem to want more. That or Marmite.

I had to look up malt loafs too!  And what is Revels?  I couldn't find that.

Of course it is not good...lol

Its hard when you lose your appetite in withdrawals sad....you have to incorporate another food or fruit.  Your a Nurse aren't you?

I can't remember what I was eating in early recovery..but like you I could only tolerate certain things.

Thank you, Misssy. I appreciate your concern.

I will try to eat less malt loaf.

      Love Tess
