    Hi adreena

Firstly, be proud that you’ve recognised you have a problem and want to do something about it.

This forum is full of very genuine members who’ve had or are still having alcohol related problems and are non judgemental.

Before trying to offer advice, I’d need to know how long you’ve been drinking and what are you drinking and how much?

From my experience the thought of never drinking again was so depressing. Alcohol is a depressant, so the more you drink, the more depressed you become.

There are are several options for you to consider, not drinking at all and relying on willpower alone. tapering where you gradually reduce the amount you’re drinking, or using medication, which is what I went for.

Let us have a few more details and you’ll get more replies

I am 44 and drank most of my adult life , I drink about every 3 days but when I do, I drink till I blackout..mostly wine or beer.. it's ruining my work ethic, my marriage and life as I feel tired a very depressed.

Thanks Adreena. A lot going on for certain. Your family and your health is what you should focus on like I did. If you would like to live a long and healthy life then stop please. 30+ years of VERY HEAVY drinking was ruining my family life and I stopped since I wanted to see my tiny twins grow up. Let us make a plan please. Gradually stopping via medicine? What are your thoughts? Robin

      Hi adreena

Youve had an excellent reply from one of the forums best successes.

Living proof of what you can achieve with sheer determination.

I used medication. What is your actual goal. Do you want to stop completely, or controlled drinking?

I think I have to get medication.  I know I can not do this on my own.  What types of medication do they offer.  I love my son so much but I know I am not the best mom I can be

I'd second looking into The Sinclair Method, since you're still drinking. It's pretty good at stopping the blackouts and month by month you want less and less to drink.

What country are you in, Adreena?

    HI adreena,

please explain a bit more about yourself, if you like. Check out The Sinclair Method for starters.

    cheers
