Help.. Undecided if to start these

So I suffer from sprouts of depression... It all started after I had my daughter when she was 5 months old she got rushed into hospital! It started about a week after that! I started with very bad panic attacks! Went to the doctors and they put me on citolpram which made me feel worse to the point where I wanted to kill me self! I had to get my dad to take me to the hospital as I was scared what I was going to do! They told me to come of the tablets and just to take diazapam! 2 weeks passed and I was back to my normal self!

4months later I feel very stressed and it all comes back but this time without the panic attacks and the being sick! Just had a numb axiety feeling in my kneck! I was able to go out still this time and still eat!

So back to the doctors and this time the have prescribed me lustaral this time! I'm so scared to take them as I dint want them to make me as ill as I was last time! I have 2 kids to look after and it's the 6 week holidays! I'm so scared to take them but I just want this feeling to go away! I have been fine this last week again the feeling in my kneck has gone! Woke up this morning feeling absolute poo! I'm thinking about starting them in 3 weeks when my sons back at school! Please any one did you have side affects from these x

    Hi faye,

i was curious to start sertraline and when i did i got sweats and all sorts of thoughts etc,but im battling through it and i know there going to make me better in the end, like with any tablets they all have there side effect so take them and fight through it. plus you have your children to think about as if they dont have there mum they will be lost and if your not around just think of the effects it will have on everyone else, be strong and fight it, i have been on them for over 2 weeks now, the sweating stopped after a week and my sleep is getting better too. i have been back at work properly for a whole week and it helps having people around you which i have opened up to my work colleagues and they all understand which helps me too, i have pushed my wife away loads and she is strong and stuck by me, so chin up smile

Hi Faye..I think u should start them now because they can take anything up to 6 weeks or more to kick in..plus a lot of people have to get their dosage changed (either up or down) to what's right for them. Everyone is different..some get bad side effects, some get moderate side effects & some get hardly any. I am currently coming off Sertraline having been on them about 18months..my worst side effect was really bad sweating..but they really helped me. Keep in close contact with your doctor tho & discuss everything with them re how u are feeling etc. Best wishes, let us know how u are getting on!

    Hi Faye

I would suggest taking half tablet for 3 days, then full dose. You didn't say what the dose was. First time around i  was very anxious about side effects so I introduced it very slowly over a 6 bweek period (ie 50mg sertraline) and experienced no side effects. This time round I did as I just suggested to you and all i experienced was the sweating and a bit of tiedness which is both easing off. Been back on sertraline 2 and a half weeks now.

    Good luck!
