Help! Understanding blood test results...

I've been having severe headaches and other symptoms that have been deblitating over the past three months. Recently I changed allergist and they decided to run new blood work. The results came back Positive abnormal for ANA Direct and High 1.0 for Sjogren's Anti-SSA. Does this mean I have Sjogren's or could it just be a false positive? I definitely have some of the symptoms, but I just don't know anything about this. For now I'm in hold for a referral to the rheumatologist (neurologist referred me after seeing my blood work). If you have any input or advice, please share. Any help is appreciated.

Thank you for the input. I appreciate it. I've been suffering from migraines and pain that have continued for weeks now. Was just "dealing" with the pain until the migraines became unmanageable and we're preventing me from working. Between the referall and other tests, hopefully they will have answers. 🙏

The best part of a diagnosis is knowing what is wrong with you and confirmation you're not crazy 😊. I was diagnosed with primary sjogrens 18 years ago after 3 years of trying to convince my regular doctor there was something wrong with me. My rheumatologist took one look at me and knew thats what I had. One lip biopsy later it was confirmed. Blood tests showed positive as well.
Try not to stress about it because stress for any autoimmune only worsens your symptoms. If you have been diagnosed, fantastic. Sjogren's can be more of a nuisance and not necessarily life threatening. Learn to treat your symptoms and keep up with those follow up appointments. Everything from allergies to a toothache can be the cause of those headaches when sjogrens flare up. It is a connective tissue disease so inflammation anywhere in the body can be like a firestorm during sjogren's flare ups - so not all the time. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is key to keeping those symptoms at bay. An anti inflammatory diet and a diet to promote healthy nerves along with a multi vitamin, vitamin D and vitamin B12 really help with preventing pain, itchiness and neuropathy. Keep tons of lotion handy for dryness. Plaquenil might help with joint inflammation, prescription daily eye drops for dry eye and a special over the counter mouth wash for dry mouth. Giving up smoking and coffee really helped me with dry mouth, dry eyes and headaches. For the most part its a smooth ride, just have to find what treatment works for you. In my opinion, next to thyroid dysfunction, sjogrens is one of the better autoimmune diseases to have if you're going to have one. Good luck!

Sorry this i late, but I am feeling so ill from Sjogren's, Hashimotos, and burning mouth syndrome. Sjogren's is not life threatening, but stress makes everything worse. Only the symptoms can be treated. I am taking Pilocarpine 5 mg 4-5/days but my saliva is still so thick and sticky. I do have a lot of joint pain, and osteoarthritis but not rheumatoid arthritis. I have facial neuropathy and neuropathy in both feet. My joints hurt and the joints in my thumbs are causing so much pain that it is difficult to even use them now. I am 66 and really feel for people who are younger who are suffering from the affects of autoimmune diseases. Blessings, donna
