help with 2 year old. night sickness, smelly diarrhea and weight loss

On the 1st of July my 2 year old started being sick and have diarrhea. The hospital diagnosed viral gastroenteritis.  Now she is only being sick in the middle of the night and is fine all day ling. She still has foul smelling diarrhea and this is several times a day. She has been at the hospital once since then on a iv drip due to dehydration and they took a stool sample then but it came back negative. She has even been back to the doctors as well and they said nothing is clinically wrong with her. She has lost so much weigt and has gone from above the 50th centile to just under the 25th centile in this time. She is a fussy eater but is still eating certain things at times. Its really getting us down as both hospital and doctors have said they cant find anything wrong but we know there is. Sorry for too much information but her sick is quite watery and a browny green colour and her diarrhea is the same. We have just staryed her on infant gaviscon just incase its reflux. She also complains of tummy pains and her throat hurting.

Apart from viral gastroenteritis which has now been ruled out, what else can cause night sickness, foul watery diarrhea, tummy pain, throat pain and drastic weight loss? Any help appreciated as we are just so scared at the amount of weight she has lost

How terrible! There still must be something wrong with your little girl, if she is still vomiting! Does she cough a lot at night? This could be causing her gag reflex.

Many of the symptoms you describe do fit in with mesenteric adenitis - inflamed glands in the tummy caused by a virus https://patient.info/health/mesenteric-adenitis.

Think you should go back to your GP's and insist on further tests ....

Well we started giving her infant gaviscon day before yesterday and there has been no sickness and her poop is starting to get harder and browner lol. We have moved her back to stage 2 baby food just to try and get her to eat, and she is! We are doing stage 2 for a week then stage 3 for a week. If shes ok with all that then we are going to slowly introduce normal food again. She does have a normal breakfast but is reluctant to eat anything else apart from the baby food through the day. Keeping my fingers crossed that it carries on like this now and hopefully we have solved the problem

Happy to hear that she is on the mend. It must be a relief for you.  I get so stressed and anxious when my LO is sick. Hopefully her tummy bug has passed for good. Glad to see her appetite is back. Think you are getting her eating back on track the best way possible.

    Best wishes
