Help with blood test result please

Posted , 4 users are following.

Hi - my 16 year old son has Coeliac Disease and has been gluten free since diagnosis (a couple of years).

He has recently had some blood tests and his Serum tissue transglutaminase level was borderline.

Does anyone know what this means?

Tissue transglutaminase is an enzyme that fixes damage in your body. People with celiac disease often make antibodies that attack this enzyme. ... A blood test that shows higher levels of anti-tissue transglutaminase antibodies can help your healthcare provider figure out if you have celiac disease.

Hi Talla, I think the blood work is  a good tool to gauge to what degree celiacs is functioning at, but my physicians opinion is once celiacs is diagnosed it will never go away. The symptoms can greatly improve with correct diet but celiacs is celiacs there is nothing to reverse the disease. My physician doesn't do blood work at all. Her approach is a scope, once the scope confirms Celiacs her instructions to follow a very strict diet.

    Good luck.
