Help with diagnosis, panic attack? And what to do next?

Hi everyone,

First of all apologies for a long post and if you have the patience to read it all, thanks in advance.

About a year ago my girlfriend (who was 27 at the time) was in a super high pressure job and feinted at work. Over the next few months she had two more episodes of lightheaded ness (without feinting but feeling feint).

She then met me and we started dating. She had just quit her job and decided to take a month off to chill and de-stress. For about a month following no symptoms presented themselves.

Forgive my bluntness for this next part...

During intercourse she had a particularly large orgasm (or series of quick smaller ones) and immediately had an episode, as follows;

First of all she went totally silent and her eyes went totally vacant, I knew something was wrong. When I tried to talk to her she burst into laughter and then into tears, looking confused. I was asking her questions and for about 15 minutes lost the ability to speak or more accurately couldn’t seem to be able to form in her head the words and sounds, she became frustrated and scared and cried more and began shaking uncontrollably, naturally I called an emergency Doctor for advice. After about 30 minutes in total she slowly regained control but had a terrible headache and stomach pains.

Over the next few months she had one a month or so and always (and only) following a super orgasm, she didn’t have the ‘attack’ following a normal orgasm, only the really intense ones.

The second time it happened I took her to A&E but by the time we had waited a few hours she was fine and heart rate/ECG was all normal. We were advised that if it happens again to call an ambulance as they can test her heart rate during an episode.

We also went to a private doctor who could find nothing (he really only ruled out a stroke).

Fast forward a year and she still has them but less frequently, and ONLY ever after an orgasm but today she had a new episode;

It’s currently -7 and as she left work was instantly cold (in the UK we’re just not prepared for cold weather) and began shivering including a clenched jaw that she said she couldn’t control. She managed to drive home (I wasn’t with her) and as soon as she got in she collapsed into my arms and burst into tears. She couldn’t form words again so I knew she having ‘one of those’.

I got her into bed, a blanket and hot water bottle and she managed to eat something although she said she felt spaced out (like she always does) and I helped her slow her breathing into long slow breaths.

Within the hour she had fully recovered save for the classic headache and stomach ache.

So! Are you still with me?! If you are, wow!

From my observation it looks like adrenaline spikes but reading online sounds more like a panic attack although she isn’t stressed typically. It seems this one was bought on from intense shivering and possibly hyperventilating herself accidentally.

I’ve no idea what to do next or how I can help. CAT scan? Doctors can’t find anything wrong and of course it will be hard to replicate an episode in front of one!!!

Any, any, ANY help and advice would be sorely welcome as I hate my Angel feeling so confused about her own body and mind.

Friendly hugs to you all in advance.

Neil.

    Anxiety can do this.

    But also check for:

    Thyroid issues, Lyme’s Disease, sleep apnea, Vitamin and mineral deficiencies, especially iron.

      Hi Mike! Thanks for replying! All those tests came back as negative. I don’t think it’s bio chemical. Possibly bio electrical but I’m leaning towards anxiety, hyperventilation, panic attack with respiratory alkalosis.

      Appreciate the tip.

      Five tips to combat anxiety, depression and drug withdrawal:

      1. Drink warm lemon water every morning (before brushing teeth)

      2. Get morning sunshine on your skin (coverts to Vitamin D and melatonin)

      3. Maintain proper sleep hygiene

      4. Eat dark green vegetables

      5. Practice belly breathing (in and out through nose)

    Hi Neil. I m not a doctor although here is nobody doctor but we can only give you suggestion and tell our expeeience. First of all you show her to doctor as you told you already do this. All tests and reports are fine. Its a possitive thing. Now i can say its anxeity . There are many types of anxeity. Only a physco dr can suggest. Do you checked her by phsyocolgist.

    I think she has a peoblem or depressoon far in her mind that she cannot explain. So you talk to her as much you can. Give her courage. Ask her to dont talk presure on her mind. Live a possitive life dont drink and smoke and illegal sex relations. Pray for her health. Agree to GOD. If she agree GOD, GOD WILL BLESS HER.if you do sin GOD will angry . My pray for her MAY ALLAH bless her and also all of us and give us healthy safe long life. Ameen
