Help with excessive hair and possible treatment?

Okay so I'm 21 and I've been diagnosised with pcos with the aid of a ultrasound and low sex hormone binding globulin. Like most of the symptoms for bother me a great deal, apart from the excessive hair.

I'm generally fairly hairy and that doesn't bother me too much since I've always been like this. But I've got a lot of hair around my chin and all down my neck. If it was the case of just removing it I would be fine with that but it's very ingrown and I get lots of spots, redness and discolouration.

I went to the doctors after the positive diagnosis and tried different contraceptive pills. The didn't do much and made other things much worse. After that she brushed me off with some hydrocortisone and told me it was common. She seemed more concerned about me potentially having kids that my problems.

Now I know there is no special quick cure and I've tried everything going. Can anyone help me with this or recommend anything? Or even if you think I should go back and get some other treatment?

Any help would be amazing. I just don't think people realise how awful this can make you feel.

Try going on a phyto-oestrogen diet that balances your oestrogen levels.  Look up Dr Marilyn Glenville.

    Hi Laura.

I think this is one of the most real problems with PCOS, which doctors completely underestimate the effect it can have on your confidence.  I dont know what hair type you are but i have found the philips lumea home lazer to be realy helpful with reducing the facial hair growth, I started with it 3 years ago and really havent looked back, still get some stray ones but a quick zap keeps it under control far better than the ££££ i have spent on electrolysis and waxing over the years. but aware it doesnt work for everyone, i have fair skin and dark hair which is the best combination.

The product i have found best for ingrowing hair is Bliss ingrown eliminating pads, very expensive though!!  but they work on my ingrown hair on the top of my legs which is just horrid if not treated!

Mint tea is appearing to have a hair recuing affect too, but not sure if that psychological!

    Good Luck!

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply! You are so right though, I don't think doctors see past the literal medical problems.

It seems like we have similar skin and hair types so I'm defiantly going to get this, thank you so much!

Like it has just got to the point where I didn't think there was a way out? Like it was horrible working up the courage to speak to someone about it and then get thrown to the side.

This has been a problem for so many years and like you said, it's smashed my confidence to pieces.

I can't thank you enough, your advice has been amazing! :D

    HI Laura,

I jave the exact same issue- i have a lot of hair as well, especially in those areas. What i found very effective is electrolysis. It does take quite a while for you to really start seeing the changes being made- but it is a lot better then waxing in my case.

And i comepletly agree that people dont understand how embarressing it can be. We are in the same boat girl!!
