I occasignally get something similar I get cramp so bad it literally stops me in my tracks. I just have to stand there while what feels like a current passes through me and this can be every 10 mins for an hour. My doc sent me to a nutritionist who hammered my diet. I still get this during an attack but more occasional at the current time but I can go through cycles where I will have 6 months feeling fine and 6 months can't get outnumbered f the loo and have to stop work. I seem to go from one extreme to another.

Hi, ask the Dr about enteric coated peppermint capsules peppermint is an anti-spasmodic for things like cramping it may help, enteric coated sort of means it stays intact in the stomach and dissolves in the intestines.

I was diagnosed 4 months ago by a general practitioner that I have IBS. I took Movicol sachets with water, but the gas and irritability did not go away. For the past week I have been using Spasmopep, (South African name), which is peppermint oil in a gel capsule. I feel great, no bloatedness, cramps or discomfort. Please speak to your doctor if you could take this natural, no-side-effect herb. You must be sure that you are not allergic to peppermint and make sure with your doctor if you can use it.

IBS pain can be very severe; it does not necessarily mean you have something else.  I have had flare ups where I literally didn't know where to put myself because of the pain. Have a look at Fodmap to see if you have a food trigger.  Have you had any stress lately? Anxiety fuels IBS enormously.  The pain can convince you that you have something else even when you don't.

Some people benefit from peppermint and it seems an innocuous treatment.  However, if you have reflux with your IBS, peppermint will make it worse. You could still try it just to see.  IBS treatment is not an exact science   What works for some doesn't work for others.  Painkillers like Nurofen really help me along with Buscopan which is an over the counter antispasmodic.  You may have to try several to find one that works.
