Help with sleep

Hi All

So I've been suffering with tension/migraine headaches everyday since last June. Its been a nightmare. So I'm on sertraline as my mood was seriously affected.I did try amitriptaline. Was on them for 4 months. They did not clear the headaches. The sertaline are starting to work on occasions so I think it is just a matter of selecting the correct dosage.I suppose I also need to look at what is causing the headaches. It looks like it may be a combination of OCD anxiety & depression. With some rumination thrown in.

So I'm wonder what ppl take to help with sleep. The amitriptaline was helping but my doc tells me it can't take them with sertraline due to the risk of serotonin syndrome. I have tried 25mg of phenerghan but they leave me very groggy in the morning with no energy. At the moment I take 2 kalms night but I wake every hour with them as the tension seems to get worse at night when I settle down.

Does anybody else suffer like wise and what meds do they take

?

Hi, it sounds like you are experiencing symptoms of chronic tension headache which could be attributed to stress. It sounds like you have had a degree of medical input in terms of the medication that you describe. I'm not an expert in medication and doctors will be best placed to advise on this. However, I believe headaches should be addressed in a 'holistic' way. Steps to address the causes as you mention are very important.

I would suggest that these symptoms could be attributed to stress or anxiety. Have you felt under an unusual amount of stress over recent months?

If so, then steps to introduce more relaxation into your life such as 'progressive relaxation' and 'meditation' can have benefits. Also, sometimes if you worry about having headaches then that in itself can make the headaches worse. This can be another good reason to consult a professional because it can help to put your mind at ease.

There are other areas to consider as well. For example, changes in diet and exercise levels can also affect headaches. I once consulted a physiotherapist for an unrelated knee injury and he actually helped me a lot with my headaches because he found that I was carrying a lot of tension in my neck and gave me exercises to relieve this.

      Hi Jasey

Yes you are correct. The headaches are as a result of anxiety.Yes I do practice meditation. It hasn't really helped with the headaches.
