There are foods that you can just eat without cooking, like plain probiotic yoghurt, fruit, avacados, bananas, tomatoes, cucumber etc.

Nowadays good fats and oils ae recommended over carbohydrates and it's not too hard to pop some chicken in the oven and have salad and brown rice, quinoa, amaranth or something like that with it. I don't even make a proper salad; I just have these types of foods by my bed and I eat in bed.

If you like cheese I recommend goat's cheese, and many of us do better when we go gluten and wheat free.

If you haven't got an electrical steamer I recommend you get one. They're pretty easy to use and they have timers and turn off so if you forget you're cooking it doesn't matter.

You need highly nutritious foods and yes it does take some effort but how likely are you to recover if you don't have it?.

I could go on but I just wanted to give you some ideas. I'm looking forward to hearing other people's advice. razz

Sorry to hear that.  I too, feel that nutrition is super important. Another note, many people with CFS tend to put on weight;sometimes as a result of an underactive Thyroid.  There are thyroid supplements.

Hi Dawn, I'd like to know if my thyroid is over or under active. According to blood tests my doctor says it's normal but my ME is severe and I've had it for over 10 years, being virtually bed bound in all that time so I doubt that it's normal!

I assume it's underactive but it's confusing because I'm underweight. Nurses who come to my home have been weighing me lately.

I don't know how much you know about the Thyroid but do you think it can be underactive if you're underweight, or must mine be overactive even though I've got ME?

Anyone else, if you know anything about this please reapond.

Hi Georgia, I don't know especially a lot about the thyroid.  However, I do know that a person can be super-skinny and have an underactive thyroid; because this was the case with my young adult son.  The blood work showed his problem and he was put on a prescription.  Also, although my problem did not show up on regular blood work by a mainstream doc, a more holistic doctor who specializes in treating CFS did some bloodwork and found that I also had a low thyroid despite not being overweight.  He put me on a thyroid supplement (not prescription).  You said that you would like to be tested.  I don't know where you live and I don't know what the situation is like in various countries, but I do know that in the U.S.  there are multiple holistic doctors who know how to test.  Maybe elsewhere, too?

I'm sad to hear that you are mostly bed bound.  I'm so impressed with how much you have reached out positively to others.  When I was mostly bed bound I craved watching shows and sleeping so that I could get away from the flu ty

Thanks Dawn, you've enlightened me! razz

Reaching out to others is a pretty selfish thing for me because I get so much back. There's nothing commendable about it because if we're all in a boat that's about to sink we all have to cohere! Lol

You're very well educated aren't you! question (I can tell by your commas).

I'm a Brit and I don't have enough money for tests because of not being able to work for so long. That;s good though because I have rely on myself to find the answers.

It's very easy to comfort eat, fancy chocolate, eat a banana or drink a glass water.

i find keeping myself busy stops eating but with CFS you cannot be busy. Next time you feel like heading for food tell you body you don't have the energy to get up!
