I was recently diagnosed with HS from my gynecologist. I am going to get a second opinion from a dermatologist.

I have had this massive boil which started off the size of a golf ball for over 4 months now. It is absolutly horrendous. Purple and red in color and raised. It also can be extremely painful. It constantly drains. It has drained everyday for the past 4 months since it started. It drains this disgusting green/yellow puss. I can't go a day without wearing gauze or a panty liner.

Can someone please tell me what I can do to atleast manage this?

I am only 20 years old and it is affecting my school, work, and relationship horribly. I have cried almost everyday over this boil.

Is there any way to stop the draining? Or even get it to decrease in size?

I can't imagine being in a bathing suit this summer or even shorts and someone seeing this horrendous oozing boil.

Is there some diet changes I can make or over the counter anything?

My doctor has prescribed me doxycycline which got rid of the infection I had initially. The second visit with my gyno she prescribed me Flagyl and Augmentin. Which I am starting today. The first oral antibiotic had no effect other than getting rid of the infection.

    Hi Stacie,

I had one of those.. With HS. It turned out to be a pilonidal cyst which is operable. Common in HS sufferers.

Absolutely check it out, GP, referral to Ultrasound, specialist, surgery... In my case it fixed a lot of my HS also.

Hi I emphasise with you as I have that too.  The ab's should get rid of the infection and once they do the abcess normally starts healing.  If yours doesn't then it might need lancing or incising.

I had a massive one a few years ago and the doctor sent me to hospital straightaway.  I had a general anesthetic and it was incised.  I was in for 3 days coz they couldn't get rid of all the infection and have intravenus ab's.   If it doesn't need that they can at least lance it under a local anaesthetic.   This should get rid of it.  x

Go to hospital straight away. They will do incision and drainage for you under general anaesthetic. I had this done and it's not pretty I must warn you, you are left with an open wound because they want the wound to heal from the ground up so you will have it packed every couple of days by a nurse. I had to have that done for 4 months before it healed... Now I have another lump. It's a constant battle but u just have to be strong and hold your head high because if you don't you will breakdown. Hope this helps x
