Hemiplegic migraine

Hi i have been recently diagnosed with hemiplegic migranes. I had my first attack at age 25. Before this i had migraine as a teenager and vertigo as a child. I have been sick for so many years and during this time I was diagnosed with stroke,TIA and also ive been treated as if i was crazy or faking my symptoms. Often it seems when a doctor can't figure out what is wrong with you their ego causes them to blame the patient. I have also just recently been found to have a pfo, which is a whole in the heart. So its very difficult to know am I having a migraine or a stroke. I have very strange auors with these migraines. I cant think i feel like i am pushing through a force field when trying to talk ,its actually painful. It feels as if gravity is pushing down on me causing weakness an paralysis. Can anyone relate.

I have such extreme aura and a lot of symptoms. There was no understanding of my condition until I finally developed joint pain and went to see a rheumatologist. From there I was diagnosed. It was a hard road to travel. I was around 40 by the time I was diagnosed. The aura was very extreme. Tests showed nothing and I was treated like I was crazy....hysterical pr both!

Kasper with all this going on I think there is something similar causing your problems here. When I was little they thought I had a hole in my heart too. It tuned out I didn't but I had heart murmur and various problems caused by vasculitis which can attack your internal organs and ultimately cause tia or stroke.
I used to wake up with stroke like symptoms. My illness 'mimics' stroke. It can actually cause stroke though thank god I have never had one.
I currently see a vasculitis specialist in Cambridge UK and am currently symptom free. 😊

Kasper77,
Do you know that there is a procedure to "patch" the pfo? They have found that once migraine sufferers have it patched, they either no longer have migraines or they are fewer and much less severe. Check out this website
