Hemiplegic Migraine

Hello.....

The beginning of this month (March 2017)

I was rushed into hospital with a suspected stroke, thankfully the CT scan showed no bleed on my brain so I was moved to another ward and in the morning I saw a neurologist, who diagnosed me with hemiplegic migraine. Due to how I was feeling I did t take in any of the limited information he gave me. I have been to see my GP who prescribed me Amitriptaline. (Not sure how it's spelt) but didn't know much about this.

I still haven't got feeling back in my face or arm... it's been a month. I feel exhausted and it's making me quite emotional as I'm not sure what to do. Everyday is such a struggle and to make things worse a member of staff has left at work and I am now doing her job as well as my own.

Any information/advice would be great. I'm not sure what I am dealing with here and when I will feel better??

Thank for listening to my rant xx

    Hi Claire

I recall my first Hemaplegic Migraine...scared the life out of me.

I had my first many years ago and the left side paralysis lasted about 2 or 3 weeks. As you say it left me feeling weak and drained.

I did not have another for years...but then they came back with vengeance. Now I have about 2 a month.

I take amitriptyline 50mg, topirimate 100mg, sumatriptin and diazepam 5mg. Even then I still get them only the severity is more bearable.

Stress I find prolongs symptoms and can even bring on an attack, so if you can limit that for the sake of your health, your body will thank you for it.

I feel your pain and can only say it WILL go.

Hope your feeling better soon and please keep us informed of your progress.

    Take Care xx

Hello, thank you for your reply.

I think I need to go back to my GP and try and get referred. I am struggling every day, I'm exhausted. I haven't had full feeling back since the first of March. It's making me quite irritable now. 😞

Hope you are feeling ok now.

    Hi Claire

I'm 29 and been suffering from hemiplegic migraines since I was 15. My vision goes, all feeling in my arms and my face drops which is extremely scary because the symptoms mimic a stroke.

I have been in hospital a few times because of this and also had a ct scan. I have no other health conditions and I've found that the best thing to cure this is "migraleve" the pink tablets which you can buy over the counter.

I'm completely understand, it takes a while to recover from this type of migraine and I've still not found out what triggers mine. Maybe with the stress of your job.....

    Hello....

So I had an appointment with my neurologist and because the numbness symptoms are still continuing, along with the confusions, tiredness and dizziness... I am being sent for an MRI and a lumber puncture as well as about 20 different blood samples.

I'm glad they are being thoughro but I'm scared what they might find. Lol.

I thought LP was a test for MS???

I feel so exhausted, work and children and maintaining a house is just too much for me currently and no-one seems to realise how poorly I feel. sad

    Xx
