Hemochromatosis - 23 Male and Issues!

Posted , 4 users are following.

Hello, I was diagnosed with Hemochromatosis over 1 years and undertook regular blood lettings until my ferritin dropped from 700ish to 35.

The reason I knew something was up was because I was tired, stressed and my emotions were just not what the use to be. I also felt as if I was in a constant brain fog.

However, even know with my reduced levels I don't feel great. I have undertaken some EDTA Chelation and feel great when this is done, having checked my bloods before and after - this reduces my iron, ferritin and Transferrin Saturation.

Is there a way to reduce TS to normal or near normal levels. I know I feel better when this is done! Help Please! Thank you smile

Hi Peter. Despite living with Haemochromotsis for some time now, i dont know what EDTA Chelation is and Transferrin Saturation. As long as your Basic Ferritin levels are kept in check, and at a decent level, as u say yours is now 35, that should be good enough to allow you to live a good day to day living.

Do you have any other effects beside the Tiredness ??  Swollen/Aching Joints, Headaches, Nose Bleeds.??  Just some of the effects some people have, and can be seen on the Haemochromatosis Web site.

A lot of people with it,also have bouts/ live with  Depression as well.

Hello Michael,  Also, I would have a very low sex drive. I'm really fed up trying to get to the bottom of this. There must be something not right. What does the average heamocrhoatosis patients TS sit at?

How long does it take to get your levels down - diagonsed in mid January levels are 900 had my first bleed approx a week ago - got 3 booked for the coming weeks but booking them seems to be a prob as you have to book well in advance - Weird mine shot up to 908 after my first bleed - Ultra & Echo all come back normal so think its been caught in time
