hemorrhoid help

Hello all, I'm new here and hoping for some help. I'm from the U.S., so things might be different. Anyway, I was put on antibiotics and steroids for an infection, but now I'm dealing with what I assume is a rather large hemorrhoid. My anus is very swollen and tender, but there is no itching or bleeding. I got some OTC cream but it's not helping...same with a warm bath and using wipes instead of tissue. I would feel silly going to the doctor for this, especially because I don't have a trusted GP, and my "lady" doctor says it's not their problem. Can you even have a hemorrhoid without itching? The pain is unbelievable, and comparable to the level of pain associated with my c sections. So what should I do? And do you have anything that works for you? Natural methods preferred.
Ps....I drink a lot of water, and attempt to eat well since I'm breastfeeding. I did not strain either...I'm assuming this came about from the medication.

You didn't say this explicitly in your post, but it sounds like the antibiotic treatment you took upset your stomach and made you use the toilet more than usual. If this happened, it might have irritated your hemorrhoid which is now giving you pain. So, if this is what happened, you probably also need to restore the balance of bacteria in your gut--the easiest and quickest way to do this is to take probiotic capsules which are available over the counter in drug stores and vitamin shops (you can look on the internet for reviews of the different brands).
As for the painful hemorrhoid, you might want to see a gastroenterologist or a proctologist--they can prescribe anti-inflammatory creams which can be very effective.
Good luck.

I'm not a doctor but I've had hemorrhoids for many years so I know something about them. If your H is as big as a grape it may be the external kind. I've read that a simple incision lets the clot out and relieves pain immediately, but this is usually done when it first happens. I once had one of these but I waited a few days and my doctor prescribed a cortisone cream which helped a lot, and the H eventually disappeared.
I don't think going to the emergency room is a bad idea especially if you don't have a doctor who can help--hemorrhoids are common, especially after giving birth, and they probably know exactly what to do. Just so you know, it shouldn't involve surgery.

I'm a 56 year old female who delivered four daughters years ago. With each daughter, my H got bigger. A heat lamp, TUCKS pads, Prep H all help but often the soreness or bright red bleeding comes from something new. New drugs. New foods. I recently had surgery. The pain meds wreaked havoc with my H.
I'm weaning off meds, upping my fiber, and trying to move around a little more each day.
Once the H gets stimulated, it just takes time for it to settle down.
Use what works best and gives you the most comfort.
H surgery is painful and not always successful.
Grin and bear it as well as you can. It's miserable. It it passes. Good ol Tylenol can give relief as well.
Good luck. Hope you are already feeling better.
