Hemorrhoidectomy

hi all,

i am currently 5 days post op and had several internal and external hems removed. the pain has been really bad but i am managing. i would like to know how some of your experiences have been after healing. does your anus look normal? do the bumps and lumps go away without further surgery? if so, how long did it take?

thank you!

Hi I had a hemorridectomy 5 weeks ago for 3 large external haemorrhoids.

Every day got better, but after 4 weeks I woke up and just felt a lot better, with no soreness or pain.

So just hang in there...Come 4 weeks and you will also be fine and back to normal. Just keep on having a high fibre diet, take stool softners like Movicol which are a huge help, and drinks lots of water / orange juice. Have a lot of rest and take it easy. Dont worry about the bumps after the operation, they will go down (mine have) within time although it can take a few months to completly smooth over. I know some people were talking about getting their skin tags operated on to be removed, but I dont think its necessary and neither did my surgeon.

I had pain for around 10 days after my op. Salt baths really helped me ...usually 2 a day. The lumps and bumps will shrink but I still have a small excess skin lump on the outside. Hope you feel better soon 🤗

Yeah, the first week is bad. Check other related discussion threads on this site for ALOT of information, recommendations, and stories in great detail.

I personally have no lumps or bumps now 3 months after the procedure. But some others do have them longer. It seems to vary by person, by doctor, and by technique used.

    hi COSMIC

those lumps are called skin tags ( at least that is what my doctor called them . in my case, they subsided two months later but did not completely disappear. They are not bothersome now

    good luck !

I have been avoiding the surgery, but your post gives me hope. I imagine there's a range of experiences, and reading any are helpful. I also imagine a few skin tags would not be as bad as my messy, protruding, sticky and burning Grade IV hems! Continued best wishes to you in good health, minus hemorrhoids...hooray!

UPDATE: I'm 9 days post op and basically pain-free. the swelling is going down drastically although there are a couple of bumps still. My main concern at this point is discomfort of passing stool but all is MUCH better. I am hoping the swelling subsides completely by week 3.
