Hemorrhoidectomy

Posted , 4 users are following.

I've had piles since i was 15, I'm now 27. I've had the banding done 7 times now. i had them banded around 7 weeks ago, 3 fell off and the big one stayed and bleeds quite badly. I'm not in agony, it's just a dull ache constantly and hurts after going to the toilet.

Even though I'm not too bad i asked my consultant to do a hemorrhoidectomy because enough is enough, my big one is third degree which means it won't go back up. I've had holidays ruined, sometimes unable to go work, sitting in a bath all day so i don't ever want to go back to any of that and i know it only takes 1 day and feels never ended with the pain.

Now, i have problems with my bowels where i have to strain hard, the consultant said that this needs sorting before a hemorrhoidectomy but i stood my ground and said I'm not waiting around, he reluctantly agreed and now I'm just waiting for a date for it. all i want to know is how bad it hurts, I've read some horror stories. what's the healing time? and how did people find it going to the bathroom?

I'm prepared for pain as long as i know in the long run itll be worth it. can't have banding again, it's not working for me anymore.

im in the same boat. have you any idea how long you have to wait

i asked my consultant and he didn't know, he was very rude and didn't want me to even have the opp but he hasn't been in pain for 12 years like me. My banding this year took around 8 weeks. he said i may need to chase it up, I've even wandered if it will be this year.

How long have you been waiting so far?

since December. i live in alberta canada. i had problems for 5 years. i find my consultant cocky , i am anxious to get surgery out of the way. im not sure if i still have hems or just large skin tags, either way im just fed up of it!

know how your feeling. i have skin tags caused by piles also.

Id chase that up after being so long. it makes you more anxious waiting around and and reading the horror stories. once we both have it done we should be on the road to recovery

Have you looked into other options - injections, stapling, HALO, RAFAELO - which are usually less painful and have a shorter recovery time than the full op you are considering. In my experience the full op was painful afterwards and was 6 weeks back to full recovery but the op worked for years and years before I needed further treatment. I know everyone is different though. I've also had Rafaelo, which is supposed to be non-painful and that really wasn't my experience.

i asked about other options, he point blank refused to talk about them.

My mum told me about the horror she had done when i was just 2, she said it was horrific but 16 years later on she got small ones back and had the banding that worked. i know I'll be in agony but if i have pile free years I'll be very happy.

i was told by a surgeon that its not as bad as when my mum had it done all them years ago

How did you find the opp?

For me it was pretty painful in the days following. Then it eases off slightly but I was in pain for quite a few weeks. You should ask others though, as everyone is different.

everyone is saying how bad it is! its so scary. how did it go with you? pain free now?

Yes, but I had it done a few years back. It worked for a few years. For some people it can work a lifetime apparently, but I've had other treatements since then! Don't be frightened. It's painful yes, but bearable.

my mum had it years back and told me how bad it was but they don't do it that way anymore and its a day case. I'm not in much pain now but the hemaroid won't go back up so it needs cutting out as it can swell anytime and bring me horrific pain like in the past where i can't leave the bathtub, in the end i bought a sitz bath, it's amazing for pain relief!

My consultant says the bleeding will stop but i will still have the same pain, which clearly i won't because the piles will be gone, these consultants are on thousands of pounds and give information that is utter rubbish.

All I'm worried about is straining on the toilet because this has always been an issue for me.

what pain relief did you take? i have tramadol and high co codomal but don't want to make myself constipated.

I'm day six post op today. All I can say is prepare make sure you have salt, numbing cream/gel, wipes that are alcohol free or medicated i.e 'Rectogesic' ,ice and a wheat bag. Its still painful but getting into a routine has helped me. Pain relief and the right kind of laxatives that work for you. Some make me really crampy! I bought as many long life fibre full foods before my surgery and my mum has been dropping in food. I was in overnight plus one day- wasn't allowed to leave until first bowel motion. I'm in Australia so some medications I'm using might be different overseas. I jump into the bath after wiping and pain reduces after a few minutes. walking around has also helped nothing to extreme just light Goodluck!

i live in the UK, do i put salt in the bath?

i struggle with any laxative, i get belly ache and spend the day on the toilet. i have movicol when i need to go.

is it usually a day case?
