Hi,

On the 14th Oct I had Hemorrhiodectomy and Hemorrhiod Artery Ligation surgery. I was told that I will be all better after 2 weeks.

6 weeks in and its been horrendous. The past week and a half i have experienced the most pain since the op. I'm still taking movicol laxatives as i tired to come off them in week 4 but quickly decided to go back on them because it was less painful to go toilet.

I haven't been able to travel any distance as i need to be close to toilet especially when the pain sets in.

I've been to see my GP who wanted so sign me off for a further month but i said no 2 weeks thinking I'll at least 70% better to start commuting again. The past 3 days ive been feeling a pressure closer to the left side and the pain with it is terrible.

has anyone experience a long healing time???

    Hi Peanut18,

ive had the HALO(Artery Ligation surgery) on the 15th Oct, 2 weeks ago, i can tell you that 2 days after the OP i went to the toilets and all me Hemorrhoids popped out, like they wanted to say goodbye for the last time. The HALO should start working between days to weeks according to the articles ive read so far, you wrote you also had "Hemorrhiodectomy" surgery, well, this one is surely painful. it can take a while to pass, can i ask you why you did 2 surgeries in one OP? isn't one enough or your situation was bad?

i can tell you that until today i have some minor pain, my left hemorrhoid is still swollen, thats almost 2 weeks now, i think i have clot over there, but everyday seems to be slight better.

    now do what i do..drink a lot..like a lot!!! 2.5 to 3 litters a day!

eat only baked food, batates and potatoes, carrots and so..in the oven.

start your day with Quaker- heat it up with water, also drink the laxatives must!!! everyday, even if you want to top it, do it slowly you can't stop at once. it can cause constipation.

i can tell you every person is different, so every healing procedure for each one is different. give it more time. try not to take pain killers - it also can make constipation.

i hope we all feel better soon.

Have you seen the Dr. who did your op for a follow up yet? What does he/she say?

I had a hemorrhoidectomy last May. First 2 weeks were absolute torture. Better by tiny degrees each day after that. Stopped the heavy duty pain meds after week 3 and switched to advil. I couldn't sit at all for at least a month. I am STILL taking stool softeners and fiber every day. It's just not worth the pain. I took them for years prior to manage my condition so I figure just keep doing it to make things pass easier.

It sounds like you had an extra thing done than I had so extra recovery time doesn't sound unreasonable but you should see your Dr. to make sure that's normal. And maybe try managing the pain with OTC meds and up your stool softeners/fiber/water intake and see if that helps the pain?

Good luck to you, I hope you get some relief soon!

I'm currently 4 weeks post op from a HALO procedure, i'm not in that much pain currently, If I come off paracetamol and Ibuprofen then it starts to hurt pretty badly but as soon as I take the meds it all goes away again, I'm at the point where I feel like I can resume normal activities but I still have issues with bleeding. Lots of blood in my BM's, but not every time I go, it fluctuates on or off.

    Hope the pain eases soon!
