Hemorrhoidectomy experience (postive so far)

Posted , 5 users are following.

Hey everyone. I just got back home from my hemorroidectomy and I wanted to start a post to share my daily experience.

Today they gave me general anesthesia and they cut out two rather but external and two interna ones.

I'm not in much pain right now at all. Just super groggy. So I'm going to sleep, and I'll check in with you all on my progress each day..

Too many drugs on board right now to discuss much!

It's 4pm and I'm just now starting to feel some throbbing and pain. So I took a precocet.

I forgot whether they said I could so a sit bath tonight or not.

Kind-of scared about any upcoming pain. I took 3 colace already and am planning on drinking miralax as well. Doc said I just need to poop by sunday.

I feel keeping like I need to pee and poop but not much pee comes out

I keep updating as the week goes on.

I took (and am still taking) 2 stool softners a day - 1 morning 1 night. Psyllium (made by konsyl) - the same as Miralax without the fake sweetners in. And for me it was easiest to use a Sitz bath and actually poop into that. The warm water was soothing - I stood up immediately to stop bacteria etc spreading and took war shower after so I din't have to wipe myself but just washed everything away.

I get the pee thing as well and still am 10 weeks post -op. Make sure you are drinking lots and lots of water. Lots!

      Hope all goes well.

It's been about 12 hours since the surgery. I'm beginning to feel some pain. Kind of feels like o gave birth out of my butt to a 10 lbs baby or like thereal a jalapeño up there...

But it's DEFINITELY not worse than labor.

I've taken two percocet today. There is some blood and it's beginning to hurt to sit on the commode. I've just been trying to rest in bed as much as possible. I'm scared tomorrow the real pain will begin.

But if the pain stays like this, I'd be happy. I'm uncomfortable but not wtithing or anything. I have some sleeping pills I'm going to take to help sleep, and I guess we shall see how tomorrow (day 2) goes

I blame the percocet on the typos lol

    Day #2 post po

Woke up around 3 am feeling pain. Took some pain meds and went back to sleep. Woke up at 8am feeling like someone put a torch out in my anus and left the torch behind. Lots of burning and sharp stabbing pains

I've been spending a lot of time in the bath. Took 3 peri colace last night and miralax. Nor bowel movements or activity. So I'm going to bump the miralx up to 2 times a day and the per colace to four times a day.

I'm not going to move to 2 percocet every four hours and ibuprofen in between. Im also using prep h cooling gel and tucks pads. I'm not going to lie--I'm in serious pain and discomfort. But in my opinion, it still doesn't best my finger surgery or labor. Definitely painful though! I've been either lying in my bed or in the tub so far. My belly is all distended and hurts too, and I haven't got an appetite at all.

Hopefully only today and tomorrow will be my "bad days" like the doc.

Hope that helps anyone who has fears about the surgery. Its painful but not unbearable, at least that's my opinion and experience so far. I'll keep updating!

Day 2, a little over 48 hours since surgery

Yesterday was pretty painful. I took baths like every hour, and I even woke up at 3 am and had to take a bath as well.

I had my first BM today. I think I've been on too many stool softeners because it's all liquid. I have had 3 BM since this morning. It's painful, but I'm glad it's all liquid.

Still cannot sit on my butt, but I have gotten up and moved around much more today than i did yesterday. Pain yesterday was about a 7. Today I'd say it's about a 5. As long as I stay on my medications, the pain is manageable. I take 10 mlgs pecocet every 4 hours, and I do start to experience some pain at about 3 hours. I've been supplementing with ibuprofen as well.

So far it's not been terrible! Lots and lots of baths. Baths and precocet are the only things to give me relief. And stay on top of stool softeners!

So, for me, the surgery thus far hasn't been super terrible and painful. My first BM wasn't terrible since it was all liquid. I think by Monday I'll be feeling much better. I haven't regretted the surgery once!

That's good to hear! I'm almost 3 weeks post op and I don't have any pain but I'm having a hard time passing stool. It's large and impacted and I can't pass it, so o just had to use an enema on myself. Ugh.

It's so awful. I don't know why I can't pass it. My doctor said I need to take a laxative and not just a stool softener. So we will see.

    Day 3

I've been a complete wreck today. I've had diarrhea since yesterday, and I've been having a BM 3 very hour or two hours. IT'S VERY PAINFUL!

And my belly is all swelled up and hurts really bad.

I tried to call my doctor and got very little help. Maybe I just couldn't hear him over my wailing and crying, but he seemed to really not care about my discomfort at all. I'm pretty worried about the diarrhea. I haven't taken stool softeners since friday. Seems like with the percocet and everything, I'd be constipated and not having to poop every hour. Only a little bit usually comes out. I called the ER and they didn't seem to care either.

I feel like something is off. Why is my belly so bloated? Why do I have diarrhea? And the stool looks weird. One time it was laced with blood and white stuff. Other times its just dark water. But I think I've seen white stiff twice now. And why do I look like I'm 4 months pregnant and why do I have such bad belly pain?

Today I regretted the surgery. I cussed my surgeon and silently cursed him and decided I absolutely hate him. I went psycho on my husband due to pain, and when I wasn't crying I was cussing someone or something.

Hopefully tomorrow is a better day. I'm on the edge of going to the ER.

I'm sorry to hear that! Yep it's painful!

Blood and discharge and everything like that is normal. Laxatives and stool softeners cause gas and bloating as well as belly pain sometimes. I had diarrhea too because of the miralax.

It does get easier but for me it took a long time.  It was easier for me to poop into the Sitz bath and then stand up immediately. The warm water was a bit soothing. Remember to take deep breaths - or just to breath when you are using the toilet.

Instead of Miralax if you take it - Try Psyllium by Konsyl - it doesn't have any fake sweetners in it.

I had the same experience as you with the Doctor. (I ended up back in hospital and lost so much blood I had to have 3 blood transfusions) even though the pain is excruciating, I can tell you being constipated and having to have an enema is worse. IT DOES GET BETTER. Every day you can pout behind you is another day you are getting better. Do you have Lidocaine? - a numbing ointment - that will help a bit.

I'm 3 weeks post op from mine and I have no pain down there but i can't pass big stool! I don't know if I have anal stenosis or not? I had to use an enema the other day and now I have to take laxatives because I can't pass anytrhing bigger than a quarter.

Heaven, That is great that you have avoided pain, I have a high pain tolerance and this pain was excruciating - I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I am on stool softners - once in the morning and once at night with a full glass of Psyllium by Konsyl every day. (Psyllium is easier to make in cold water - mix a spoonful in a water bottle with a little water, shake it up, then fill water bottle full of water, shake again and start drinking, it gets thick the longer you leave it so its easier to drink ) My doc has to check for Stenosis - she checked manually but said she could fell that the muscle was working against her finger so she knew I didn't have it. I will continue to take this forever I think, I'm drinking lots and lots of water every day. It's still painful for me to go to the toilet. but not so I scream out like I did for the first few weeks. If you use the stool softners and psyllium it has kept me regular every morning - I can't afford to be constipated, that and an enema scares the life out of me,

typo - should have said - so it's easier to drink quickly than wait

I called my surgeon and she said she really doubts I have anal stenosis. She said if I can't pass anything bigger than my pinky than I would have a problem. She tangible it svecause my stool has been very hard. So I'm taking 3 stool softener pills a day and when I don't have to work, I take one laxative pill instead. I'm trying to get my stool to where it's like play doh, that's what my surgeon said it needs to be. I'm having a hard time getting it to that. It's either diarrhea or hard stools. My body though for 3 years was like naturally making my stool watery due to not having a gall bladder. So maybe that's why.
