Hemorrhoidectomy March 7, 2022

Hi all. I had three internal hemorrhoids removed. I have to force myself to eat. Is exactly one week from today that I went in. Has anyone else had problems with nausea? My doctor at the beginning put me on tramadol, a pain medicine, metrocarbam, a muscle relaxer, and ibuprofen, and Tylenol
today is Monday and I stopped the tramadol on friday thinking that might have been the cause. I still have no appetite. I’m working my way up to 20 g of fiber. I got 14 g in yesterday and I’m going to try to get at least 17 if not 19 g of fiber in today.
I’m alternating every four hours between ibuprofen and Tylenol. I’m taking about 600 mg of ibuprofen at once and 1000 mg of Tylenol. Is that too much? I just want to keep on top of the pain. However, I do good until I have a BM. I’m hoping I just have a BM only once in the morning. After that I have kind of a dill ache and a sting for about four hours. Is that common?
i’d appreciate hearing from others.
thanks, Sharen

Hi again Sharen. I'm not much help with this as I don't have any experience (yet). I did read though, that someone on this forum was using liquid nutrition. Protein shakes etc. I honestly wouldn't know if that's a good idea or not but might help if you're not eating. Might produce less poop? I don't know. Wish you well. James.

thanks James. I did use the chocolate protein shakes from Costco for a couple days and then I had a nutritionist tell me that it could cause diarrhea because of the sucrose and artificial flavoring. I quit using it but it did taste good to me I may go back on it. I also had a cousin who had this surgery done a couple years ago and he said protein shakes makes his stools hard. I think we just have to play around with stuff. Are you getting ready for surgery or have you had it?

hi James. i’m day 10 of the surgery. As I mentioned before I’m 68 years old. I don’t know how old you are but I think some of these ladies/guys from this site are Younger than me and I think the healing process is probably faster. My biggest problem is lack of appetite and getting my fiber in. I got 17 g of fiber in today and I am having successful bowel movements in the morning. However about 7 o’clock at night I feel like I need to go again. It’s a horrible feeling and I just sat down on the toilet and got out like a 1/2 inch solid turd. Plus, you’re not supposed to strain and I cannot help it. I’m sitting in the tub now. Sorry, too much information . however, I’m hoping that’ll pull me through till the morning. What I do is after I wake up around six or 630 I drink a bunch of water and eat 1/2 apple. That seems to do the trick for me.
If your doctor thinks you need a Hemorrhoidectomy, I would go for it. No, it’s not fun but hopefully, in the end it will all be worth it. I told myself when all is said and done if anyone has any questions on this website, I would be happy to try to give them my opinion. I realize that none of us are experts but it does help to hear what everyone else is going through.
i’m also going in on Friday, March 18, to see my colon and rectal specialist to see why I have to force myself to eat. I am a person with a lot of high anxiety so I’m sure a lot of it is just nerves.
let me know what your doctor recommends. I forget, are you dealing with internal or external hemorrhoids or do you know? if internal, have you ever had the rubber banding? Surgery is usually the last thing they do. I have had several rubber bands and they worked for a while, but that’s why I decided to do surgery this time.

Hi Sharen. I hope you're through the worst now. Thanks for your advice - I also have a lot of problems with anxiety, especially when it comes to medical things. I haven't had any treatment so far and I was worried that they might say I need surgery. From what you've saying though, it seems they might suggest something else first. In any case I'll have a long wait. Here in the uk, the waiting list is very long due to the pandemic. I hope you feel better soon. Thanks again for your advice, James.
