Hemorrhoidectomy post-op 2 days with hemmies left!

Posted , 4 users are following.

So, had my Hemorrhoidectomy two days ago, the surgeon removed 3. grade-3 internal ones which has caused me problems for several years. I think i also have had 1-2 right "behind" my anus, don't know if they are classified as external or internal but you cant see them from the outside. However, the surgeon said the surgery went fine and the took "the bad ones" off but left some in there to minimise

sphincter damage but now my problem is that these two remaining MF(!!!) hemmies are protruding, like they have become external hemmies, probably because the whole area is swollen. Don't have much pain after the surgery, surprised by it actually but my biggest concern right now is that the hemmies that where left are going to stay this bad 😕 Feels exactly like the removed ones when they were protruding after BM. Has anyone had this experience?

That is very unfortunate. I am sorry you are going through this. My surgeon removed all of mine and the pain I have had after surgery, is indescribable. So maybe, by not having them all removed at once wasn't such a bad idea. I am on day nine postoperative, and still have quite a bit of discomfort, especially during a BM. I would talk with your surgeon to see what your options are for the others. Maybe they had a plan unbeknownst to you. Good luck!

Hi Jen and good luck on your recovery as well, one can say that dealing with hemorrhoids is literally a PAIN IN THE ASS!

That could be the case yes and it probably depends how the 'roids are located etc although damage to the sphincter/stenosis/incontinence etc is pretty rare even if you take all out in one go, form what I've read. It could also be that they will retract with less swelling, it is a bit worrying though, but as you said the pain is basically minimal and after all, they removed several of them. As I am writing this, i would say my pain level is 2-3/10, mostly just discomfort from fluid leakage, with that said, BM this morning was painful!

Sorry if my english is a bit off, I'm from Sweden!

Your English is perfectly fine. My 1st day was horrible because I had trapped gas and the swelling was so bad I couldn't let any of it out. 2nd and 3rd days not so bad. However my 4th day was excruciating so be prepared for the possibility of something worse. I hope that you don't have that experience. I had my surgery last Tuesday. Friday and Saturday were by far the absolute worst days, and absolute worst pain of my life. Be sure to stay on top of your stool softeners and drink plenty of fluids. If your stool softener is a stimulant it could cause you to clench and struggle with your bowel movements. I did not know this and had many issues with it. I have now switched to metamucil twice a day. This is seemed to help minimize my pain. Also I'm hopefully and the more painless end of things. I hope that you get the answers that you are looking for from your surgeon.

Well Jen, you were absolutely right, this is my 4th day since op and my worst day by far, had BM this morning a couple of hours ago and jesus christ, my pain level is at that point that it is hard to move around. Throbbing and aching pain. minimal bleeding so I guess that's a positive though. Also feels like the swelling has increased again.

Yep experienced this, I went back in for a second surgery 6 months after my first surgery. to remove the remaining issues.

    I regret my second surgery

still learning my BM's like I am a young child.

its horriable experience in life to go through

Did you get new hemorrhoids after the first surgery or did you already have some that got worse after? Hope you get better, sounds awful. I will call and consult my Dr at the end of the week, but my gut feeling about the swelling isn't good, hoping for the best.

i think its definitely too early at day 2 post-op to be concerned. it wont be 'pretty' down there for a couple of weeks and you will likely be experiencing all kinds of sensations (pain, itch, spasms, etc) for good 4-6 weeks. i had 2 (grade 4) removed and 2 (small) left in due to the risk if stenosis. i think i only summed the courage to look at the site at day 10.. it freaked me out .. but with time it all goes down.. give your body some time and best of luck with your recovery 😃

Thanks for your reassuring words, It helps! 😊 Today has been like the other days, not much pain but my pain level has gone up this evening a little bit and so has also the bleeding, not much blood but more than before. Feels like the internal swelling has gone down a bit though. But yeah, have to confirm like everyone else that the "you'll be fine in a week"-slogan is such BS, can't understand why doctors and healthcare in general are diminishing the huge impact a hemorrhoidectomy has on people. I will extend my sick leave for the next week and the week after that I've taken off from work, hopefully I'm somewhat back on track by week 4.

Hi again, I'll have to ask you since I'm a bit concerned about the swelling/two lumps. Did you also have the feeling that it is sort of the swelling/lumps that is painful after BM? To me it feels like that somehow, they aren't tender to the touch but seems like they're getting harder in a way, but yeah overall the size of the lumps/the swelling has gone down a bit maybe 30%. It almost feels like they are slooowly "crawling back inside", lol. Now 12th day post op. And by the way, you were absolutely right about the itching 😂

yes.. most definitely normal if the swelling is at the positions your hems were removed.. i had swelling/lumps on left and right side.. as there were the ones i had removed (3 and 6 o'clock position). the right side disappeared completely.. the left side (this was my biggest one) left a bit of a skin tag which i believe is still shrinking. just for reference and according to my doc mine were huge @ 3cm (not sure what the 'standard' is ha ha).. although i apparently still came only 2nd in his 2019 'season' 😃

Ha ha, alright lol 😁 Well it seems like we sort of have the same, I think I had my largest one, which was prolapsing and slowly turning to a grade 4, at 9 o'clock and the swelling is at that position. I also like you have one that's just a round lump but the other one below is probably going to leave a skin tag as it has sort a small bulge at the tip. Guess it's just a waiting game from now on then.

you most definitely have the hardest day behind you.. just watch your diet. too many people here seemed to gave set backs from not being careful with food.

Yeah, at least I hope so, starting to feel better, my main issue now is the outside swelling, without that I would probably feel quite back to normal. Yeah, gonna do that for sure. Been healthy and athletic my whole life so food hasn't really been a factor for my problem, but def. going to pay that extra attention in the future. That's the biggest downsize of this whole thing, I've lost a lot of weight and muscles during these last 8 months, 17lbs, as I was cutting down on food even before the operation trying everything to make to situation better but of course it didn't help as surgery was the only option. Also having a high metabolism to start with doesn't help neither 😄😖

Just a quick update, not much have changed the last 4-5 days, tomorrow I'll be on my 4th week post-op. Have to say that the pain during BM is minimal and the "inside" feels pretty good but the lumps keep on swelling after every BM and feel raw/sore. They are still pretty large and even though "h45851" has given me some reassuring words ( 😄 ) I'm starting to have my doubts, even if they turn into skintags I wouldn't mind, for now, only if the discomfort and feeling of pain would disappear, really annoying. Going back to work tomorrow.
