Hemorrhoidectomy Recovery

hi all. I had a hemorrhoidectomy on this Monday, March 7 at 2 PM. I was doing fairly well and walking around and trying to get my fiber in. On Wednesday, I decided to call the doctor on call, the ER doctor at my local hospital. unfortunately, he gave me some bad advice. He told me to take milk of magnesia before I went to bed. He said that I needed to have a bowel movement on day three and to take it Wednesday night and also Thursday morning. I told him maybe I should wait because it hadn’t been a full 72 hours. He said no, take it now. At 10 PM I took it and right away I had an urge to go. I had a nice soft stool BM and I had relief. After that starting at 1:20 AM in the morning I had several diarrhea episodes. it is now Friday, March 11, and I thought I was done having diarrhea. However, at 9 AM this morning I had one watery attack. I talked to my nurse and she said that it’s probably because I took three stool softeners and I did not have any fiber in me. I told her I have not been able to eat very well the last couple of days. she told me if I’m not hungry, to drink a protein shake. I’m going to have tonight a protein shake that has 30 g of protein and 3 g of fiber. Tomorrow, I will take only one stool softener instead of 3 and 1/2 a cap of MiraLAX. I will try to start eating and having a little bit more fiber as well. With all the diarrhea, I’m afraid I have developed an anal fissure. The only bad part of this experience is my doctor is on vacation and won’t be back until one week from today. (next Friday, March 18). i’m also going to try to wean myself off of tramadol and just take ibuprofen and Tylenol every 3 to 4 hours. Any other suggestions? Do you think if I have an anal fissure, it will set me back? I appreciate any advice. -- God bless, Sharen
