Hep c Liver tests results???

I am 31, diagnosed with hep c about seven years ago, I never did needles or anything and wonder if I got it during my blood transfusion as a baby back in 1984 as I have read it can remain dormant for years? Also I got some test results back and nothing makes sense to me.

Ferritin lvl 38.5

Can someone explain? Also I have been having abdominal pain and "bathroom issues" - lovely I know- for like a month now It seems for the past decade I sleep way too much and it's never enough I tire out way too easily and it just feels like it's getting worse.

Iron 125!!  That is extremely high.  But your ferritin is not too high.  So it does not match.  Maybe the 125 is your haemoglobin?

If it is really serum iron, then something very wrong, and it will cause ab and bathroom issues.  Are you taking an iron supplement?

What is your transferrin saturation %?

Sorry, no nothing about the other results.

It just says iron on my sheet I have, I went back and double checked. And I've been told before my iron was too low so I'm at a loss here. I'm not taking iron supplements. I'm not sure what serum iron is?

That's all the testing I have should I have the transferrin saturation tested? Thank you so much for your reply!

Normal range for iron or serum iron is 10-30 umol/L.  Your blood test should tell you what the normal range is and maybe it is measured different.  (Always ask for a copy of test results.)  A full Iron Studies/Panel test usually includes serum iron, ferritin iron, TS%, and TIBC.  Drs should be doing this test, when the liver is involved.  (They should do it as a matter of course, really, as it is a window to a lot of health issues.)

Unless your results translate to 12.5.  In the low normal range.

Normal ferritin is 10-200 ug/L unless you are still menstruating and they normal range may be as low as 10-120.

Actually, I would have thought that Hep C would cause a high ferritin level.

I have haemochromatosis, so I know about ferritin and iron levels but as, luckily, I have not experienced liver damage, I don't know about the other results.
