Heplful Remedy

Hi all
Almost a month after my surgery and I was getting some pain and discomfort after a BM, had an appointment at the assessment unit in my hospital and things are looking good so far. I mentioned that I was using laxative to make my BM's regular and was informed that I don't need to use it any more as it constantly works inside to make you want to go and that is not the solution. I was prescribed FYBOGEL, which is a fibre drink and it works to make the stool more accommodating to be passed and it doesn't force you to constantly want to go. Since taking it for the past few days the BM has improved and I no longer have to go a number of times and the post BM pain has diminished drastically. This product is available over the counter in the pharmacy and is around £5 per 30 sachets.

Hi Matthew, I'm 4 weeks as well, had the initial lactose from hospital but it didn't do much good as the 'bits' were coming out whenever they were needed. Started on fybogel and it feels a bit better but also am getting pains post BM and around the crotch area and passing water can be a bit of a burning sensation. Got to see the GP on Wednesday for another sick note as there is NO way I'm going back to work feeling like this. Had two hemorrhoids stick out post surgery, one has almost gone in and the larger one is slowly reducing in size. The visit to the A&E told me that all is healing as it should be (I hope), just a time frame of it getting better. I do have to admit that the first 10 days were almost unbearable.

Hi Matthew
I'm on week 4 and no way am I going back to work yet, after a BM there is pain i the area and sometimes it goes further down the leg, about 2 a week there is still a bit of blood so bouncing around in a lorry is out of a question. Need to make sure that it is at least 98% before I attempt a return to work.

I had my hemorrhoids surgery 3 months ago and it is night and day for me even though the pain was unbearable.
I never used FYBOGEL but use Metamucil every day and seem to work for most of the time .
My question is , what is the advantage for one over the other ?

Hi Omar
Never used toe Metamucil but from what I can see they are used to treat constipation, Fubogel from what I can read is fibre to make sure that the stool if more manageable and softer without the urge to 'keep going' every so often. I take it once at night and in the morning things come out and that is it.
found this if its of any use

Hi omar,
By "night and day," meaning the hems surgery was a good decision, having a good outcome? Please tell me, what was made better by the surgery. I'm still on the fence about the procedure, having read others' comments here about it. I"m still trying to manage Grade IV protruding with bowel management (no constipation) and creams. Thank you for reading. Best wishes to you!

By night and day I mean the results were very good . From itching , pain , to pain free and itch free . I only had grade 2 internal and external but they annoyed the hell out of me . I did banding 5 different times but it was a failures . No relief
3 months after hemmriod surgery and I am a new man !
But I warn you though , first 3 weeks after surgery , you will experience 12 pain on scale of 10 ! So brace your self . But once you get through it , you will be happy .
Find a good surgeon
Drink a truck load of water whether you want or not
Consume nothing but rich fiber food
Use sitz bath every time you have BM
Take pain medication
These are my advice to anyone who embarks into this surgery !
Good luck to all of you !

Thank you, Omar. I am very glad for you that you're better...very glad you're over the worst possible scenario that I can imagine...dreadful surgery! My next step would be go back to the surgeon who's been recommended and then muster up the courage to do it. 12 pain over 10 does not sound encouraging, not at all.
I do also have pelvic nerve involvement. I am sure of it. My pelvic floor PT can do internal work on the left (affected) side, and it sends all my nerves buzzing right down to the anal area into my leg. If she does the same work on the right (unaffected) side, I feel nothing at all. So I think yes, this pelvic issue is contributing to the anal pain but is not entirely to blame.
Yesterday, I think it was from the hems, I had so much burning into the anal canal, it was awful...made me tearful and felt sick to my stomach. I keep doing my normal routine (swim, light weights, walking, music activities, movies, concerts, reading, talking to friends/family...) but all the while I am suffering the burning, and pain. I just think if the hems go, it's likely to help some percentage of the issue...leaving just pelvic situation to deal with when it needs help from PT.
So, both pelvic and hems pain are very real. I agree 120% with your advice...I'moalready doing most of this on a daily basis, and am prepared to for the rest of my life! (will be 70 in January).
Water (90 ounces/day for me (drink and pee all the day long, but I just cannot NOT do it).
Rich fiber food (lentils, beans, 2 salads/day, no red meat, little dairy because of constipation).
Warm showers and hot washcloths to soothe the irritation and clean up after BM.
Anyway...thank you for posting. It helps so very much!

HiI'm on fybogel but only once a day before bed. Had a bit of blood yesterday and still get some pain in the area but getting better as the time goes by. Now that I think back to the first week and the impossibility to do anything without pain I realize how far things have progressed. Still have two outside 'bubbles' but they are shrinking as I was informed and the relief is unreal. Not over everything yet but getting there. The best thing that I can say is , keep going no matter how bad the pin is. Take the medication and with a bit of luck everything will be fine.

Hi,
I also had surgery 4 weeks ago for 3 "extremely large" hemorrhoids. I was feeling better, but I must have not had enough water today and I am in a lot of pain. Has anyone else had a set back too? It's so discouraging. I was doing OK--I'm afraid I did too much at work and then when I got home and in the bathroom, I'm afraid I popped or tore something. Does that seem possible? After 4 weeks?
Also wondering if anyone else feels like their episiotomy scar is mixing it up with the stitches? I don't know if I'm explaining this correctly, but it feels really really weird in my perineum area.
Thanks,
Eileen

Hi, I have to ask my GP about my rhoids severity. I'm experiencing some blood in my BN, bright and a small amount after the BM. Going to collect my sick note today so will ask if this is cosher and post my findings. Keep drinking water as you need to be hydrated, unfortunately can't comment on the last issue.
