Here are the treatments for Acahalasia

Dear Emmex

I saw your discussion about living in Mexico with Acahalasia! I am sorry to hear that as I also have Acahlasia 3 which is the rarest of all.

To date there are only 3 treatments for Achalasia; Heller Myotemy, POEM and Esophogectomy and that's it! Some doctors will try Botox injections or try and give you Channel Blockers which is heart medication. But the facts are there just isn't any cure for Achalsia. I would be careful about taking medications at random because even Doctors in the States do not know how to treat it. It takes about two years on average to get it correct. 40% of all Doctors get it wrong. If you came to the states you might get different treatment but I know Mexico City does Heller Myotomy with wrap! You can FB me if you would like I have friends from all over the world and our group knows about this disease. Read the book by Steven Horwitz called Living with Achalasia it will help. Good luck,

Jamie

For some, myself included, surgical procedures to treat achalasia are not possible.  That is why I am so hyped about the success I have had with cialis.  It has face validity as a viable  treatment.  Apparently, my GI doctor had some information which led him to prescribe cialis for me and one other of his patients. Both of us have had relief from the achalasia.   I am going to press him to document this in one of the medical journals so others who are not candidates for surgery may get some relief.

    Jamie,

Is it just Cialis or do Levitra and Cialis work ? Also, what is the dosage? Is it Cialis for every day use that you are taking? Thanks for your help.

I am no expert, but my guess is that since Levitra and Cialis  work in a similar manner by relaxing muscles the effect for achalasia would be the same.  I think cialis is longer lasting it might be preferable.  Perhaps someone has some experience with Levitra and can shed some light on this.

I forgot to mention the dosage.  I currently take 2.5 mg per day.  That seems to help a lot but I still have some residual problems.  I am thinking of upping the dose to 5mg per day.

With the 2.5 mg my esophagus eventually clears without regurgitating but it some times takes a while and there always seems to be a small  residual amount of food stuck.  I will see if the 2.5 mg twice a day does the job better.  I will let you know in a couple of days.

Here is an update on the increased dosage of cialis from 2.5 to 5mg per day.  I have noticed very little improvement of 5mg over the 2.5 mg per day.  I did talk to my doc today and he says that he also uses nitroglycerine for treatment of achalasia with some success. I was just reading some studies showing the effectiveness of nitroglycerine.  So for those who cannot have surgery or do not care to have surgery, I believe there are viable medicinal options available.
