Here we go again 😟

Hi all! My GP recently took me off of venlafaxine slow release from 150mg a day to 0 over the period of 2-3 weeks! This was done due to high blood pressure. I learnt a lot from people on here that it was done too fast, hence the severe withdrawal, so GP put me on metazapine 15mg! I've had a severe breakdown, depression back worse than ever, anxiety that I'd never had and self harm that I haven't done since a child, I'm now 48!

New Year's Eve, psychiatrist upped mirt to 30-45mg, yesterday psychiatrist put me back on venlafaxine 150mg and told me to also continue mirt!

On top of that, local GP has doubled my blood pressure tablets and introduced another medication to try and control the blood pressure!

First dose of venlafaxine 75mg last night had me throwing up and, sorry but watery stools!!!

So now I'm back to square one with 3 different lots of meds on top, shaking and dehydrated, just to name a few! I'm losing the will to fight anymore 😔

Hi, feel very sorry that you seem to have been so miss managed. I am on 45 Mirtazapine, and 150 Venlafaxine and feel pretty good, fortunately no issues with blood pressure. I am also in my mid70s. I would hope that if the blood pressure tablets are doing their job then if you can hang in there the antidepressant/antianxiety drugs will help you stablise. It must be very difficult for a body to cope with such a cocktail of medications being throw at it.I hope you will feel abit better soon. Maggie

Hi Belinda, sorry to hear about the appointment, remember to calm down, try to drink some water not gulps of, sips. I'm really sorry about the blood pressure too. I guess its a new cycle you have to adapt to right? You hang in there ok, please don't hurt yourself. Look we cant have the captain of HMS Lunacy walk the plank 😉 hang in there Belinda, thinking of you, Nick.

    Hey Belinda,

I am on the slow release venlafaxine too, but on 225mg, my depression got so bad they had to up it i have tried to come off it but suffer greatly. I also realise the psyciatrist and the GP have totally different views on what to take, I am also on diazepam because i have a anxiety disorder. Maybe best to go back to both of them and say exactly what you have told us. Best of luck.

Hi vetfer, both my GP and psychiatrist know how I'm feeling, I have a crisis team making daily calls and visits too

I guess I've just got to try n ride it out 😏

I had the crises team out to me for a month every day too. That was about 2 years ago now i am still recovering from a trauma myself. Its good that they both know. You are stronger than you think!

Thanks vetfer, am feeling a bit better at the mo, but I'm sorry to hear you are still recovering 2 years on? My god, I don't think I would survive another 2 years of this withdrawal, in fact I know I wouldn't! You must be one hell of a fighter 😳 Good on you 😉 I hope you're getting a lot of support xx

It seems to me that your Psychiatrist and GP are trying to troubleshoot your problems by changing too many things at once way too quickly.  By changing both sets of meds at once neither of them will be able to tell the cause of your vomiting.  You will have to get the two to talk to each other and find a way to balance things out.  Maybe going back to square one, with only the Venlafaxine and old BP medicine for a few weeks and then make incremental changes on the BP medicine and monitor the results instead of them changing all your meds at once and causing problems. This will take lots of time and patience but I believe you could go back to square one and work from there.  I have faith that you and your doctors can get this all worked out.
