Hernia

Hi There,

I want to ask if anyone can help, I have a pain since 4 to 5 months my left side of my stomach, deep inside burning sharp pain, I did all the tests that can possibly be done with today’s hospitals technology, CT scan, full body checks, ultra sound, kidney stones CT scan, gastroscope, endoscope and everything is fine even doctors told me go home and take pain killers, I didn’t take pain killers the pain doesn’t stop hand massage doctor told me is a small hernia, I went to many hernia specialist and they all told me there is no sign of hernia,

The reason I am writing here maybe someone knows something what can it be? I was told hernia can take two to three years to show but I worry as I keep hearing they can burst and strangulate and can end up dead, I am 39 and no idea what other tests to do, today I saw Hernia specialist again and same he told me there is no sign of hernia, I am worried it might be deep inside and they can’t see it and by the time is discovered might be too late,

I am looking for answear to understand even if it is hernia as is at the beginning stage could it harm me or could it burst without actually being noticed?

If you haven't already I would get an MRI as they can show hidden or occult hernias. Unfortunately many radiologists and even surgeons can't read these as they are usually only looking for something protruding into the inguinal or femoral canal.

If the MRI comes back normal there is a dr. In California her name is Shirwin Towfigh and she specializes in reading MRI's and looks for hidden and occult hernias. You can send your docs to her and have a consultation over the phone or see her depending where you live.

I would do this to rule out this kind of hernia.

I wouldn't worry about strangulation etc Bc it didn't appear that whatever is going on is big enough and entering the inguinal canals and even when they do it is usually fat and the odds are low regarding strangulation.

There is also a dr. Igor Belyanski in Maryland who specializes in reading cat scans and he may be of help as you can send you scan to him and he will get back to you no charge.

However I believe MRi'a may be better for these type of hernias still with a shot to send them to both docs just to rule out you don't have a small or hidden hernia.

    Hope this helps

Thanks for getting back to me, I have done so many tests and checks in different places unbelievable how no one knows what’s going on,  MRI I didn’t do as no one advised me to do one, and like you say not many will know how to examine them, so my pain still undiscovered, my worry is that it will just strangule me but one doctor told me even if it’s hernia is at an early beginning stage and not to worry about it 😭

    Hello Shemsi

I agree with Jonah , you should do an MRI scan to be able to detect what others have missed, even if its an hernia, it cannot just burst open and cause death. An hernia can stay up to 3years visibly before it can start causing trouble or major discomfort or even strangulation .

Thanks for your fast replay, and thanks to everyone,

I just asked my hospital to give me all the CT Scans to send it to my doctor friends in Switzerland for deep checks, and if they advice MRI I will take one, I live in shanghai Hospitals here are great but MRI i don't think they will look in to such details especially when they see I look fine from the outside and checking by hands they feel nothing, but the pain I have constantly is not nice,

A guy I work with told me the same he said it took 3 years for he's hernia to show exactly same place as my pain, is am I hopping all will be fine but I will not give up digging for results,

Thank you everyone for nice feed back and help smile
