Hernia discovered during an EGD

It seemed no matter what I ate or how small of bites I took I would choke on my food and only food it has done this for three years and gradually got worse. Very little pain in my stomach every now and then, but past few months severe pain in my back below my shoulder blade on right side only and stopped at my hip joint... Doctor did an EGD today and found that my esophagus was tiny and also discovered a hernia between my esophagus and upper intestine took 3 biopsys will get results back in seven days. Are there any concerns or other serious symptoms I need to know about?

So sorrry to read about your medical problems.   I am still not back to where I was before I had the surgery.   Stomach still giving me problems.   Have to be so very  cautious as to what I eat.   And now I am getting more depressed than ever.    Tomorrow morning I will go and see a doctor about another problem that I have- a prolapsed bladder which I am told I need to have a hysterectormy to fix.    Oh- when it rains, it pours (or so they say).    Hope that you will get good news on your tests!   Send you my love!

Still thinking about you, Sherry- hope that you get relief from that choking problem.  I know that it can be so very frustrating when a problem just seems not to go away.  I was trying to eat rice tonight- didn't go down well.   But a bit later on I ate some spoonfuls of spaghetti sauce (ground beef in it) and it went down well.   I can't tell from one minute to the next what I will be able to eat.    My best to you!

Hi, I also have a HH and esophagitis and some days am fine and others food that normally is ok will set me off.  I get the pain in the back usually right side and my specialist tested me for gallbladder probs.  Found two small polyps.  You are right it is so depressing.  Don't go out with friends anymore as don't know what I can eat or drink.  Just glad we can share.

I fully understand your situation.   I don't go out to eat with others, either.  This evening our church had a fellowship get-together at one of the local restaurants and I stayed home--- too afraid that I'd end up barffing depending on what I ate.   Oh well, maybe next month I'll feel more like eating out.   Time will tell.    Gwen- hope that you'll get better in time.

After the EGD was done on me, I noticed the next day the pain in my back that has been there 2 months went away, (no explaination) the EGD doctor also told me to stop taking the generic acid reducer I was taking every so often, and start taking Prilosec OTC, every day and to not stop them even if  the package says to, he gave me samples to start me off... The next day after he gave them to me, (my news channel said that prilosec leads to dementia, which I am checking out, for it has me concerned)....... After the EGD he told me I could eat a bowling ball if I wanted to.... (LOL) so I went home ate some of the pot roast I had made while in surgery... It went down well, I was amazed!! no choking, I have been enjoying eating without choking and no pain in my back at all since then...... (still baffles me for I wonder how it all links together..... the back pain, the choking and the HH) I do have gallstones, like my mother did.... It was confirmed that there are 3 in the neck of my gallbladder and several more down in the bladder......I have known about them 3-4 years now it was confirmed and as long as I watch what I eat, I have no issues with them.....

Today, my husband wakes me asking if I am still hurting, how is my pain, I told him it went away the next day.... He looked at me and said, I have it now... Husbands, got to love them to take your pain! smile

I am glad to hear, I am not alone in this, and I wish you both well on your recovery...... sends hugs and love to you both and to others who have medical issues like we do
