Hernia? Not hernier ? Need help :-(

Hi guys going to do my best to explain.

So I suffer with acid I take omeprazole.

I can’t lay down on my back because I struggle to breath.

After eating I can’t lay down for a long period of time I can still taste the food when I burp.

Very difficult breathing sharp stabbing pains on chest and stomach.

Been to A&E oxygen levels 100% all the time.

I have to lay on my side upright to relieve gas, constantly burping .

Was told 6 years ago I had a hiatus hernier and minimal barrets.

6 years later up until yesterday I have been a social drinker not had great diet now been told I’m in diabetic range point 46 so 2 away from type 2.

I’ve decided now to take steps to change things.

Has Barium swallow couple days ago, he says he couldn’t see a hernier????

Not sure why the pain not sure why the tugging of my oesophagus, the tenderness.  I’m concerned I can’t breath properly I have pain discomfort all the time,  and doctors keep messing me about. I refuse a endoscopy due to fear of last one.  Anyone have any ideas ?

Hi Sean. I also have the Barrett's. I had several procedures to remove the cells. The doctor prescribed Dexilant which is best for Barrett's and my hiatal hernia. I am also on a strict diet. I mostly eat a liquid diet and some soft food. And I don't lay down right after eating. Sometimes I eat standing up. I hope this helps.

Is there another ways of detecting barrets without the camera?

Hi Sean! I used to have the same problem as you. I had an endoscopy done (worst thing EVER) and they said I had a 5cm hiatus hernia, though I took 40mg of omeprazole twice a day, nothing ever helped with the chest pain and sickness. I never laid down after eating, if I did, I'd have a tightness in my chest, sweating, vomiting to relieve symptoms etc. I also went to A&E several times due to the state I was in, it was awful and I could be ill for up to a week at a time. So I'm not quite sure how intense your symptoms are, but despite having a hiatus hernia, after 2 years, having a abdominal scan, I was told that I actually had gallstones! I was 18 at the time, now 22, and  had my gallbladder removed and since then I've not had any symptoms whatsoever. I don't get the tightness in my chest, I don't feel ill anymore, etc. The only symptom I have now is that sometimes I need to go to the toilet pretty much immediately after eating certain foods, but that is beyond manageable considering what I went through.

Have you had any scans to see if you have gallstones? My parents and I thought there was no chance I'd have them, especially considering I was so young, but low and behold my gallbladder was jam packed with around 30 gallstones apparently.

I hope this helps, I remember the pain!

      Hey

Thanks for the response,  I’ve not had a scan in the stomach yet, my stomach is always making noises all the way wound to my bowl, acid isn’t as bad but the tenderness from where my pancreas sits to my throat is tight always tender,  gallstones good shout, although not in as much pain as I’d imagine that would cause but I may be wrong,, it seems I be no end of issues but nothing has become of it yet... I will check with doc, well done on finding the cause...

Hi Sean, I suffered for 25 Years with severe gerd. I took 80 ml of nexium daily, along with suspension Carafate and 500 ml of Zantac. Finally all these meds stopped working. I started to cough after eating or drinking anything. I found a specialist (thoracic surgeon) that did fundoplication surgery 7 months ago. I now have zero heartburn, do not need the meds mentioned anymore. I too had a hernia. I have never felt this good in 30 Years. Do your research and find the best medical team that specializes in your systoms. Good luck
