hi I'm new here ,please be patient with me .I've been diagnosed with a inguinal hernia.since January.its not massive ,no pain then and after seeing a consultant I was advised to watch and wait .it started to hurt in August stinging ,burning sometimes so bad I got taken by ambulance to hospital in September, and shortly after saw a consultant who scheduled surgery for november 4th .since then while waiting I have been very carefull with it .and while still getting burning and sting after being up and about for about an hour .i rest and it eases .

my worry is now that sometimes the bulge isnt apparent until late in the day and some days not all .if on the day of surgery next week its it's one of those less obvious days will the surgeon be able to locate the hernia and still go ahead .??sorry for length of question .

    yes he/she will.

if you are getting your hernia repaired with mesh you should do your research about mesh and the chronic pain it can cause people.

    research non mesh repairs.

get all the facts and make the best choice

I strongly recommend that you use hernia trusses whilst waiting for the surgery, I've been using hernia truss for the past 3 years they're very helpful. best of luck

I wouldn't worry about that , my inguinal hernia was out and in at different times of the day sometimes you couldn't see a bulge and my burned once in awhile , the surgeon did a great job , it is now about a year and a half later and everything is great , you can barely see where the incision was

Yes, s/he will! Same thing happened to me. It had been there for months, then disappeared the day of surgery. Just make sure they mark the correct side! But they will track it down.

Yes, when they make the incision and manipulate the tissue the intenstine will buldge out. But on another note, do not get mesh put in. Ask them to do a tissue repair... The Shouldice method is safe. A lot of problems with mesh. I had mesh put in 3 months ago and just had to have it removed. Now I am looking at a 6 month rehab.

    No worries.

Your surgeon will have no problems in locating the place on your diaphragm that is herniated. Probably could do it blindfolded by touch alone

If they're doing the repair laparoscopically, they'll take a careful look all around, and might find a small symptomless hernia on the other side. That happens about 25% of the time.

    Good luck
