Herniated disc C5/C6

After months of throbbing pain and numbness when in certain positions, mostly sitting, this is the result to my MRI. A herniated disc between C5 & C6 with both central and bilateral compression. They claim that I should be feeling more pain in the left side than the right, but it's the reverse. He recommended going to physical therapy, possibly taking prednisone (steroids), and maybe inquiring with a pain management specialist. Is anyone able to give advice or point me in the right direction. I was seeing a chiropractor for three months without any change. I don't want surgery.

It tough dealing with a herniated disc. I had tried all the suggested injections etc. therapy.

in the long run nothing seemed to help except surgery.

Hope you will get theu this without surgery. Everyone is different.

I was hurt after a car accident and I went to a chiropractor and honestly they made my situation so much worse.  I would recommend the physical therapy at a physical therapists office!  Not a chiropractor.  If you go to pain management, they will put you on pain killers - from personal experience - can be a slippery slope, but if you need it ....   If you go see a surgeon they will want to do surgery.  Go to a neurosurgeon - not an ortho surgeon if you go.  If you are having a lot of pain in your neck while sitting, it will probably only get worse.  You do need to have some treatment.  If you can possibly go to water therapy - that's the most mild form.  There's a treatment called wazoo - it's basically massage therapy in the pool. They gently stretch your neck out - I would also look into decompression therapy.

    Good luck!

Hello jbmartin23! i have had many herniated discs and i went through PT, many injections that never worked for me, medications, steroids the whole 9 yards. What have you found that has worked for you?! I just had my 5th back surgery. Some days i wish i never had my first, but i was in a lose lose situation where it was either i couldn't walk (they were giving me no pain meds) or surgery and i chose surgery. Having surgery is your choice and if you don't want surgery, then stick to your guts! My doctors told me about water therapy ( i never did because i was tired of nothing working) but swimming for me was amazing so im sure that would have worked! How was the chiropractor for you? did it work?! What about acupunture?!  unfortunately for me, nothing worked but surgery, but my back kept getting so bad that i needed more and more surgeries due do my spinal stenosis and i just had a L3-S1 fusion and decompression laminectomy june 15. Everyone is different and i hope you find something that works for you!! I hope you feel better!!
