Herpees situation that doesn't make sense

So I just started seeing this guy recently and we had sex twice before I noticed something siverly wrong down stairs, so I went to the doctors to get it all checked out and got tested for herpees and everything else, I tested positive for herpes which led me to breakdown in tears as I'm only 20 years old.

So I just thought I had got it from the guy I had just started to see, because there has never been any signs in the past of any breakouts nothing and I had not had sex for at least 6 months before this new guy haha..

anyway so I had the horrible conversation telling him that I have herpes, so he went and got tested but his results came back negative.. which I just thought didn't make any sense at all and still don't get it..

so I've come to the terms I've just had it for however long and just didn't know until recently as my immune system was really bad around the time I had an outbreak which was my first one ever and the pain was f*****g horrible! Anyway, I've been thinking, if I had it all this time, we had sex unprotected twice and I did have a saw down there when we tried to have sex a third  time but was too sore (so skin contact) I just didn't think anything of it, I just thought it was a pimple but obviously not.. so my question is how does he not have it even though we've had unprotected sex and done oral and done oral when there has been the same down there (again didn't think of herpes at all) I would not want to give this to anyone!!

What type do you have? How did they test you? How did he get tested (type of test)? Did he show you his results? Not all tests for herpes are created equal, and if he didn't show you his results, anything's possible.

I can't remember but I think it was just type 1

I got a swab, blood test and urine test, he just got blood test and urine and no he didn't show me the results we both just heard it and saw it on a screen from the doctors.

If he was tested for IgM, that's a useless test that's often inaccurate. One in four don't test positive for HSV1 even when they have it when using the better IgG test, especially if the test kit is HerpeSelect. If he was recently infected at the time, it could also have been too soon to turn positive for antibodies. The urine test is useless without active shedding. So, it's kind of hard to say anything conclusive without further details, and even then, if might still be!

HSV1 isn't nearly as 'bad' as HSV2 after the first outbreak, so it's not much of an issue. Two-thirds of the population carry it, usually orally instead, which is actually more infectious than having it genitally. In most people with it genitally, it rarely recurs.

I had unprotected sex with my partner with a lesion down there and didn't know it was a lesion and I've had it from whenever I was a little younger, contracted from a guy I was seeing when I got out of high school. It is possible that you can have it and he not have it how I don't exactly know but it's not passed all the time when you have sex or oral.

Because it is not always shedding and the other person may not have had enough viral load exposure even if it was, amongst other things. Just fyi.
