HSV 1 and HSV 2 are different. If he has HSV 1 you can only catch HSV 1 from him. If he gives you oral and passes the virus to you then you would have genital HSV 1.

alej is correct, and also you should be aware that he could have type 2 orally as well, and you can have type 1 genitally.

Absolutely not. They are two separate and distinct viruses, albeit related. You can only catch Type 2 from someone with Type 2. Also, fyi, the type number has nothing to do with location, it's just part of the virus name. Type 2 is uncommon orally and nearly always genital.

He had a test done that was negative but said he didn't know which test it was or for what virus. This is so aggravating to me because I have only been active with him for the past 16 months and no one else prior to that five years. Also he does have some redness on his penis and one spot that looks like a pimple. That he said does on occasion he squeezes it and push comes out. I'm trying to encourage him to have an IgG test done in 12 weeks since he doesn't know what kind of test to had done. My breakouts have all healed and I am back to normal thank God. That was a week from hell. Still have a couple days of Valtrex left. I am going to contact my doctor and see if he will let me be on a maintenance program for future outbreaks.

The next time he gets that pimple, he should have it swabbed while it's still fresh. If it's a recurring pimple that shows up around or in the same place, it's probably herpes. There's no need for him to wait to get tested for IgG. If you suspect he has it, then he would already be positive.

Waiting 12 weeks is only for suspected new infections. He should test now for baseline purposes, if nothing else. If positive in 12 weeks, he could say it came from you and the nasty outbreak you're having. If positive now, then it's more up in the air and he could have been the one who gave it to you, especially with this pimple business.
