Herpes and new partners... help?

The boyfriend that gave me herpes has recently left me after finding out. I am worried about what will happen with new partners. I am worried about passing it on.. I've seen people who take anti virals daily as it helps lower the risk of passing it on I think? Is this recommended? Does anyone take them daily?

Hi kyra
Yes u can b prescribed daily tablets but it's usually not permanent, depends how often u get an outbreak?
I went through a stage of having to take them daily for around 6 months to a year .
But now i just take them as and when needed.
So ur boyfriend was the one who gave u herpes but has now left u bcos u have it??what?
Iv had it for 15 years now kyra but never passed it on to anyone. I usually know when I'm gonna get an outbreak so i just don't have sex at this time for a couple of week's. You will probably get to know when ur about to have an outbreak .
If i remember rightly i don't think condoms protect against herpes too well so better not to ah be sex at all while u have an outbreak.

Thanks for replying,
I've only ever had one outbreak but I guess I'm just nervous about passing it on haha.
And yes, he left me because HE gave me it?! Makes no sense.
Thanks :]

Hi Kyra,
I take anti virals daily. I was diagnosed in April and didn't have any further outbreaks for a few months then started getting them Regularly so about two months ago started suppressive therapy. I live in Ireland and they don't really prescribe that here so I had to order online. Went almost two months without an OB so thought I'd found my solution but this week I've an OB and it's pretty tender down there ... Lots of nervy issues, burning sensation and just really tender and delicate. No real pain, just the tenderness really.. Currently wrapped up under a fleecy blanket for comfort as feeling pretty sorry for myself!
In saying all of that, the anti virals work for many many people so if you do end up having regular outbreaks they are an option. However if you don't get regular outbreaks there probably isn't any need.
