    Hi Tia

Depends what you mean by normal.

Fact is that during an outbreak Herpes transmits very very easily with any form of sex. This because it only requires skin to skin contact. It doesn't need body fluids to transfer.

The better news is that between outbreaks, although possible, viral transmission is very rare.

So if you have an outbreak discontinue all sex for the week or so. No oral, nothing.

Between outbreaks go ahead and enjoy as much sex as you like. (Obviously informed consent is essential here) But you do need to be very vigilant for any sign of an outbreak. Get to know what you look like in the area so you can spot any sign of the beginnings of an outbreak.

i cant comment from the lesbian side of things, but i found out i had gh in 2007, and have managed it ever since, you absolutely can have normal hetrosexual sex, there is far far far too much stigma attached the to virus in general including the transmission of it. i have had short term and long term sexual partners even a wife, that we have had unprotected sex and i have NEVER transmitted the infection to anyone. you can absolutely live a normal life, and dont let anyone stigmatise and tell you otherwise. you arent an alien because you have a minor skin irritation.

you mentioned you never transmitted the infection to anyone. Do you take antivirals daily? or you just normally having sex whenever your not having outbreaks?

a mixture of both really, i only generally take AV when i have an outbreak and continue a week or so after it cleared. i generally keep fit and healthy and, plenty of fruit and goodness, vitamins, including multivitamins, zinc, llyseine. from my experience of the virus, or from my personal experience, it doesn't seem to shed from me. as stated all my partners have been fine.

just to add, my current partner does have hsv like me, but she got it from a previous relationship, but obviously doesn't affect me as i already have it anyway.
