Herpes genital warts

Posted , 2 users are following.

I have recently got herpes. My gf passed it on to me as she caught it sleeping with multiple other men. I'm not sure what to do expect wait for my results and hope for the best. I was told ever after treatment I'll still have it for life. My question is even after treatment can I still pass them on? Like is my sex life over? What if I want children one day , won't the mother of my children get herpes from me? I'm scared and don't know what to do please help

First of all, your gf need only have slept with one man with herpes to have caught it, so herpes does not necessarily equal "multiple other men". She may well have had many exes, but just saying.

Secondly, you need to find out which type you have, if you even have it. gHSV1 is not really an issue, besides the first outbreak, but gHSV2 is another matter. However, there are ways to minimise the risk to partners. All is not lost, although it is admittedly more difficult navigating the dating scene and relationships with gHSV2.

Also, do you have herpes or genital warts, both, or you don't know which?

It's herpes not genital warts. As least that's what I've been told, I have very little knowledge of STDS. And yes i understand that she could of caught it off just one person

Okay, just clarifying which you have, because your original post title confusingly says both!

Symptomatic carriers of herpes (HSV) get genital blisters and sores/ulcers, while those with symptomatic wart-causing HPV develop, well, genital warts. Warts are hard and fleshy, so very different to blisters and ulcers. Both HSV and HPV are incurable (but treatable to a degree) and life-long, although HPV can be "cleared" by the body and remain dormant for much longer periods, even indefinitely. Gardasil vaccine protects against the worst strains of HPV. You might want to do more reading, both on this site (info pages, not the forum) as well as official health authority sites like those of ASHA, CDC, NHS, etc.
