Herpes? Help!!

Posted , 7 users are following.

2.5 weeks after I had unprotected sex with a girl, the underside of my inner foreskin (beside the frenulum) started to swell and get red. It gets itchy occasionally but not that bad. Does this look like a herpes sore or ulcer?

Been to the doc who said looks like some inflammation and prescribed some supirocin.

The Doctor is probably correct - if this was genital herpes you generally get painful blistering. How long have you been using the Supirocin? Follow what the Doctor stated for using it - for things like this the first thing I try is some liquid antiseptic dabbed on 2 or 3 times a day for 2 or 3 days to see how it reacts ..

The girl who I had the sexual encounter with was diagnosed with HSV1. Could I have gotten it too when she gave me oral?

Here is what I just grabbed from the internet from a reputable source:

      .

      Causes

      • Two types of herpes simplex virus infections can cause genital herpes:

HSV-1. This is the type that usually causes cold sores or fever blisters around your mouth. HSV-1 is often spread through skin-to-skin contact, though it can be spread to your genital area during oral sex. Recurrences are much less frequent than they are with HSV-2 infection.

HSV-2. This is the type that commonly causes genital herpes. The virus spreads through sexual contact and skin-to-skin contact. HSV-2 is very common and highly contagious, whether or not you have an open sore.

      .

It is so common for people to unknowingly be carriers of HSV 1 or 2 that it is most likely that one of these was present within you, as the majority of most westernised populations are carriers anyway. Most people get cold sores around the mouth at some time in their lives - if you have ever had cold sores when you were younger than you were already a carrier, some carriers never get symptoms so it is difficult to judge whether you were a carrier prior to this sexual encounter .....

Thanks a lot for the info. I never ever had cold sores in my life if that is important.

My main worry is, does this red inflammed area look like an infection from hsv1? It has been 2 weeks and till date it has healed but not fully. Just a little red and no longer itch (only itched on the first day).

The only way to be sure of what the area is is to get it medically checked out .....

2 doctors have seen it and said it's not herpes. But to be on the safe side, I have done a blood test and waiting for the results now.

Have been feeling out of sorts and run down these couple of weeks. Also getting on and off back, butt and thigh ache.

Thanks for the update, hope you get ALL what you have going on sorted out ....

Thanks Dugie. Blood test results is clear for both hsv1 and hsv2 after 5 weeks. However, hsv1 ratio is 0.8 (highest along negative range). Is this on the high side and could it possibly be due to recent exposure?

I am unable to answer the question you ask - you would need an appropriate medical professional to answer that for you .....

Hi, just wondering if there is any update, did you get to the bottom of the cause? Did it resolve?

a .8 is on the high end of 'negative' and being only 3 weeks since exposure is definitely a possibility of a false negative. i was a .9 but my swab tested positive to type 1. i had blood drawn 2 weeks after first symptoms started. since it was a new infection my body hasn't produced enough antibodies to confirm a positive by blood of the needed 1.1 rate
