Herpes on the body?

Posted , 2 users are following.

I've had herpes for about a year now. Haven't had an outbreak since the first one until last week. I ran out of medication and went through something very stressful. But this outbreak was mostly in my anal area. Has anyone else had that happen?..also I broke out on my outer thighs, arms, and hands. They are big welts and very itchy and I don't know if this is part of herpes or somthing totally different. Any help would be appreciated.

It's possible for herpes to move around slightly, so the anus is not unusual. The big open welts elsewhere, however, do not sound like herpes. Genital herpes is lower body, for starters, and no matter where they appear, you would not expect welts but blisters. Do see a doctor about it. If you want to rule out herpes, have the doctor swab the welts, unless he/she knows for sure what else they could be.

Could it be a simple case of hives? That can produce sudden big itchy bumps and welts.

Yes!! I was think the same thing...but I've never experienced hives so I didn't really know much about it. I just was panicking because I thought maybe I had herpes on the body.

You don't have any photos, but it certainly sounds more like hives than herpes. If the welts look and feel like mosquito bites in various shapes/sizes, then that's almost certainly hives (and definitely not herpes!).
