Herpes, or a Yeast Infection, or something else?!

Okay. So.

Background:

I'm 19, I've slept with 3 people in my life, none of which have ever mentioned any STIs, none of which were strangers and none of which ever had any visible OBs of anything during sexual contact - yes I am aware of asymptomatic shredding.

My symptoms:

I noticed it burned to urinate on Thursday and I had a terrible terrible itch, which unfortunately I did itch and irritate further.

It stopped me sleeping it was so uncomfortable.

Come Friday, I noticed little red bumps on my labia minora and around my perinulum and in the crease where my thighs begin, as well as some round my anus and some on my 'lips'.

I went to the doctor and was given a 3 day course of antibiotics for a UTI and booked another appointment to be tested for herpes.

It no longer burns when I urinate aside from when the urine hits the sores, so it's not a UTI it's simply irritation from the sores, although this could be because my UTI has been solved by my antibiotics.

I went to the doctor on Monday to be tested for herpes but she couldn't do a proper test as I was so sore, she attempted to swab a sore but I won't get my results back for two weeks, if indeed I get my results.

She couldn't say for sure whether it was herpes or not, she says she thinks it is but referred me to a GUM clinic for a second opinion, however I have not yet attended the GUM clinic as I am too swollen and sore and would not be able to comfortably be tested.

My symptoms (list):

- Pain when urinating, which has now passed

- Abdominal pain on Wed + Thurs night (could be related to my period as I am also currently menstruating)

- Itchy sensation

- Sores that started as red bumps then blistered

- White discharge

- Painful extremely swollen left labia minora

- New sores forming

- An odour that began as 'yeasty' but is now different

Basically I just wanted to know what everyone's opinion is - I sadly believe it could well be herpes but I just wanted to know the possibilities of what else it could be.

I am going to go be tested properly ASAP I am just nervous, swabs from inside wouldn't be able to be taken at the minute due to my peroid and I am so swollen and sore the nurse said it would be 'excruciating' to be properly swabbed or have a speculum (?) inside.

I suppose I'm just hoping it is a yeast infection I'm not quite sure how I could come to terms with having herpes.

Thanks for anyones opinions / thoughts / advice and experiences.

Hi Ellie, I am not sure about any other possibilities, this does sound like herpes to me. I was exactly the same and kept thinking of other things it may be... But deep down I knew it was! Chin up and good luck with your results x

I'm going to go be tested properly tomorrow hopefully.

How was your test? How are you finding it now?

      Thank you x

No problem. I'm a similar age to you and haven't slept with many people, just happens to the best of us I guess! I was diagnosed with type 1 in December, still struggling to come to terms with it! And I was hoping I wouldn't get many outbreaks but I've already had another. Just got to try and stay positive! x

It's just bad luck really isn't it! What was your second OB like?

definitely, we have to keep our heads up x

Definitely! Well to be honest I've had it quite easy compared to others! On my first outbreak I only had two sores, and my on my second outbreak I only had one! So they are definitely less severe x

I've got so many sores and I keep getting more despite being on Acliclovir haha! I've also got swelling too which is horrible! I just keep thinking though, it's never going to be as bad as it is now, and that definitely helps a bit x
